This is the complete sessions of Julie is her name (1955), Julie is her name vol. II (1958), and excerpts (bonus tracks) from Lonely Girl (april, 1955), Julie (january, 1958) and Calendar Girl (may, 1956). Julie London is considered the most sensual voice in the history of jazz, besides Peggy Lee (Peggy was so surprising that Duke Ellington said once: "If I am the Duke, Peggy is the Queen"). Julie London alongside Peggy Lee, Anita O'Day, Sarah Vaughn, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Monica Zeterlund and Diana Krall, I must say, is a dazzling singer, mixturing seduction, softness, blasé posture and at same time strong, tender and furry voice. I'll start with the songs of Lonely Girl album. Well, it's is a cool jazz and the recordings reflects a most romantic atmosphere and intimacy, her voice very tender, melancholic and in love. The other is Julie, she plays with Jimmy Rowles and his Orchestra. The songs are cool jazz, only more impulsive, with sensuality and vibrating. "Calendar Girl" Julie played with Pete King and his Orchestra, also cool jazz, sung and played happier and loose.Now, I"ll introduce the album "Julie is her name". It's an album to remember and one of most important of jazz. In this particulary recordings are the new kind of cool jazz. Julie imposed a so called low singing way, very softly, almost a whisper and sexy voice, and in the words of the critic Bill Balance: "A performer who radiates charm and friendliness...", among the great guitarist Barney Kessel, whose style inaugurate the lightness and bright in how to play the guitar, he developed a style playing the guitar with solicitude, freshness, imposing a way to play very striking and remarkable conducting to a loneliness and the luminosity and singularity of the bass player Ray Leatherwood made history, because they create what will be called some years later of bossa nova. Yes people, you heard very well, bossa nova or cool jazz played and sung in the style of they did brand that kind of music. The way Julie and Barney achieved, playing with that feeling and slow, smooth and easy hand guitar, invented the bossa nova alongside the softness how Ray Leatherwood played the bass. Again, in the words of Bill Balance: "In this, her first album, Julie's molten mezzo is handsomely set off by Barney Kessel's guitar and Ray Leatherwood bass- a blending of three skills that adds up to an intimate, sleek and sultry production".The album Julie is her name vol. II also is a great record, Julie now is accompanied of Howard Roberts, a guitarist of great caliber, skills and very vigorous and a bass player with much balance, Red Mitchell. There are sublime interpretations of the classic romantic standard "Blue Moon", "Spring is here", "Too good to be true", "If I'm Lucky", "Hot today", "Little White lies" and many others stunning songs of cool jazz itself.To finish I must say, yes, people, the bossa nova is a product of United States of America in it's integrality, not from Bahia State, Brazil. João Gilberto took advantage and played bossa nova claiming it is his creation (sic). Nonsense, his album only appeared in 1958.

This is a high quality three album set on two records. Includes Julie is her name, Lonely Girl and Calendar girl. It is a gatefold cover with high quality photos and printing. The quality of the pressing is first rate. Considering you get three albums, it is a bargain. The other album I recommend is around midnight. I own the original release of this album. This is a very good quality Re Release pressing and the additional bonus tracks make it worthwhile to have a second copy.

I Bought this strictly for the cover. Any Julie London fan will tell you they have purchaced at least one of her albums based on the "cheesecake" cover alone. I, however, would highly recommend her album "About The Blues" for your listening (rather than viewing) pleasure. For someone just discovering her, you will quickly realize exactly where Diana Krall got her style, sound and a good portion of her catalogue from.

I've been searching for this record everywhere and was so happy when I found one listed on Amazon for such an affordable price considering how rare this vinyl is. Shipping was very fast and everything came just as listed. Would totally recommend buying from this seller!

アマゾンに予約注文しましたが、発送が遅れるとのことでキャンセルし、マーケットプレイスで購入しました。出品者は皆海外ショップなので、粗悪品の場合は返品するつもりで最安のドイツから購入しました。1/26に注文して2/6に到着です。わずか10日、早い。ジュリーロンドンの復刻LPは8枚目になります。本品は、オリジナル3枚を2枚に詰めてるので音質には目をつむる覚悟でした。ところが盤面は日本製並みにキレイでスレも汚れもありません。your number pleaseは返品後の2枚目でもスレ傷が散見しました。そのほかこれまでの6枚と比べても圧倒的にキレイです。2枚4面とも問題ない『新品』です(^^)。さて音は？1曲目の冒頭で軽い驚きとともにニンマリ、いい音です。多曲収録の復刻版とはとても思えない、鮮度抜群のまぎれもない『レコード』の音です。豊かな声量に支えられた、高低強弱を自在に奏でるジュリーのボーカルが前面に出て、弦楽器やピアノの音もリアリティよく立体的に響きます。2枚組の4面を気分良く一気に視聴しました。本国の初期ロッドは持ち合わせませんが、これでいいやと満足出来る素晴らしいLPです。
