Ultra Evolution Nano Bookshelf Speakers - Pair (Piano Gloss White)

If you don't have F U money but still want quality, SVS is always there to fill that audiophile void. These are my travel-for-work speakers on jobs that are just a few months long. I use the SVS Soundbase and the SVS SB-1000 Pro and it's just a joy to have such balanced detail in anything I watch. It shouldn't matter, but it's nice to have speakers that serve as decorations as well.

Amazing sound quality through all frequency ranges. Plenty of bass for size. Crisp highs and smooth mid bass.

Was impressed by the clarity and the broad frequency response of these very compact speakers. They are very heavy and dense, and their solid construction and porting seems to help to create some excellent bass response, even better than some speakers with 6.5 mid-woofers. The diamond coated aluminum tweeter has a great response and reproduces high frequencies crisply without any changes to EQ. The look and feel of the speakers is different than anything else on the market and looks high end and expensive. The piano gloss finish is immaculate and the overall look was one of the nicest of any compact bookshelf speakers I have owned. Think of a higher end beolab speaker from B&O as a comparison in terms of the fit and finish. Given the aesthetics and form factor and immediate appeal of the sound I really wanted to like these more. There is a slight boominess to the bass, however, and a lack of presence of the vocals due to the mid scooped response. They are striking sounding at first, but I found the emphasis of the high end created some ear fatigue with time. I will admit that with some good DSP and EQ these could be neutralized and you’d probably be doing these in your listening environment anyway if that is important. For a relatively small mid-woofer driver this is probably as good as you can get in terms of reproducing the spectrum, but I needed more midrange clarity for my musical preferences (vocals, horns, chimey clean strat sounds). I will confirm that good power output is needed to drive these optimally, but they are surprisingly efficient and are probably better than their rating.

Normally I don't write reviews, but I feel that these small bad boys really deserve it as it seems like they have gone a bit under the radar. They really sound great! There is a ton of bass with a good punch in the middle and a clear and clean top end without being harsh. They are mostly used with rock from the 90's and 00's, and some trance. And they are really great for this purpose, much because of its punchy and fast bass. When playing trance I need to turn down the bass so I won't have complains from the neighbors. And the finish (white gloss) is just fantastic. As a small comparison I also tested B&W 606 S3 as they also gets nice reviews, but they are (still) to harsh for my ears. I use Bluesound Powernode 331 (2025) that deliver 100w in 4 ohm as they need some power to really shine. I also think Wiim Amp Ultra would do a great job. Can't recommend them enough 🙂
