PLATT,RUTH - THE LESSON (BLU-RAY) (1 Blu-ray)

Todays society is full of miscreants, lack of discipline and good role models in the family.social media, music and lack of law enforcement are trending towards anarchy and logic.Totally understood why this teacher snapped.Good film. Hope it tweaks a few brain cells and invokes thought.

So for the spoiler free bit.For me as a benefit class child, this film initially tapped into something quite personal.I would equate it to Skinamarink, where kids of a certain age, who grew up in a very specific manner were shook to the core by that film, but everyone else just shrugged in indifference.I think this films opening gambit will be the same for many... The dejection our subject faced was quite emotionally challenging.Whoever was behind the camera and the editing suite and decided to take a completely over coloured image rather than a Lynchian view of the world is a genius... because it juxtaposed the harsh reality.A scene where they drink cider on a hill was so overly saturated with candy cane colour, it was fantastically done in contrast to what they were talking about and the harshness of their reality.The horror aspects were well done and the director dragged every last drop out of the actors, who put in a fine showing.Now to the mild negatives and the spoilery part..I think it would have served better as a commentary on loss, parental harm, dispossession and grief rather than veering into horror, because once it "turned" I had to make a mental change to view the film from a different angle entirelyHowever it didn't - and when it pivoted, it pivoted hard...And in fairness, it was done well, and the makeup department need a round of applause because all of the blood and gore was terrific.The main antagonist was great, but I'm struggling with the logic of it...For someone that "just wanted someone to be inspired" yet drawing teachings from works that were absolutely against totalitarianism, subjugation, slavery, torture and classist denigration, I struggle at his true motives.Almost everything he quoted (at least from those that I recognised) were about the brutality of man and how power corrupts.. surely a teacher torturing students would tick every box exposed by these works.Anyway.. enough with my quasi-intellectual nonsenseIt's a good film. Just expect to get lost in the prose, because I think that is a huge part of the point.. There were unattainable expectations set upon the victims, and we were party to that by not being able to entirely follow his warped reasoning.At least, that's how I'm interpreting it, and I'm ok with it.. I'm reasonably well read and didn't feel that me losing the thread occasionally was any attack on me, but a device to understand the warped mind of the antagonist.

i'd have had the teacher get away with it and carry on working his way through the class. also the girl should have gone back to her mum. instead she ends up saving the day and they live happily ever after reading books and having sex all day. bit lame at the end.

I can see where they wanted to go with this film, they just didn't get there. The two chavs are annoying and the teacher is even more annoying. Listening to him drone on for a good 30 - 40 minutes threatening to do the same thing over and over again with the nail gets tedious. I think this film is supposed to be intelligent in the sense that the psychopathic teacher continually vomits English literature and the chav has to recite it but in all honesty, it's pretty boring. The gore isn't great, just lots of red stuff smeared around. Back story is pretty ropey. In true chav fashion, putting this film on with anticipation is like opening a Christmas present and finding out its a lynx set

This film is a really good film! It’s very scary! Me and my Fiancée watched this film together and we both really enjoyed watching it! It’s definitely an evening film and not suitable for children! It’s a movie for adults only! I would definitely recommend this dvd to anyone that wants to watch a good movie! X

I wish I'd looked up IMDB beforehand or taken more heed of the bad Amazon reviews of this film. I have literally nothing good to say about it. When you find yourself fast forwarding through most of this chore-like yawn-fest of a film, only to find that the end is probably the most boring, predictable part of it... that's when you know that's a good portion of your life you'll never get back. Someone wrote that if you were an actor in this film you wouldn't tell your friends as you would be too embarrassed to be associated with it, and that is 100% right. Absolutely abysmal.

With a lot of horror movies today you feel nothing for the characters or victims within the movie. Ruth Platt has written and directed a movie where you feel real empathy for the characters; real NEGATIVE empathy. With exception of one person, you really feel happy about what my be in for the rest of them.This taught thriller is tough to watch at times but it's in no way torture porn.I loved the way that Ruth also finishes the movie which is unusual and novel.I couldn't give 5 stars for the disc due to the lack of extras but at a very economical price I still feel that I had value for money.I genuinely look forward to this writer/directors future projects.

This film was better then I expected, very good acting from the teacher in the film. The ending wasnt good, and it felt like a b-movie sometimes. But it was a good film and it was worth a look.

Excellent service by distributor/seller. Every teacher will appreciate this film! Every teacher and professor has troubled troublesome students that brings forth shameful thoughts! The acting and sets were excellent.Interesting film.

This could happen when child's get out of control to were bad thing can be done to them so do not think you can get away with this.
