Works just fine until it doesn't. Longevity depends heavily on local factors.
It's a bit hard to give any such product a fair review. Especially in one of the most important aspects: reliability. Evaporative cooler water pump reliability is heavily dependent on the conditions of use in the individual installation. Locations with harder water will usually be tougher on them than those with softer water. Are there hard water mitigation strategies used like purge pumps or any of the water treatment products that claim to soften the water? Is the pump removed and taken indoors over the Winter or just left in place? You get my point. I've used this exact pump for years on my old swamp cooler and some of them have lasted more than one season but usually I've had them seize up and need replacing almost each season at some point. I'm lazy and live in Utah where the water is pretty hard. Considering the add-up costs and increased personal attention required for mitigation strategies I've just sort of reconciled myself to the cost of pump replacement after a season or season-and-a-half. Replacing the pump for me isn't a big deal. Just unplug the old one, swap the water output tube and clean/replace the filter basket and mesh that it sits in. My new swamp cooler of almost exactly a year now, came with its own pump which just seized up about a month ago! Ridiculous! Half a season last year and a few months into this season and it quits! I replaced it with this Dial pump from the old cooler and then bought a new Dial 11000 to have on hand for when this one seizes up. It's just the unfortunate cost of doing business. I should probably start buying them at a local Big Box store and file the receipt since the pump has a one year warranty. It would make trying to get a replacement easier on the ones that don't make it through the warranty period, but as well as being lazy, I'm a hermit. The pumps work just fine -- until they don't. That's why I took away one star. Unfortunately, from reading that I've done, this seems to be a prevailing issue with this sort of product no matter who makes them.
