Great story about friends
Two of a kind? Sort of...and sort of not! This adorable story shows that you don't have to have everything in common with someone to be a great friend. My girls loved it and so did I!

Beautiful illustrations and memorable characters
Told with skill and wit, this picture book will become a favorite for children. It contains helpful tips about navigating friendships with people from different backgrounds and is told through the experiences of two extraordinary animals. Lee Cherry does a great job of keeping the story entertaining, fun and developing themes young readers can relate to. This is a perfect story about friendships that children will enjoy and be very entertained by. My granddaughter loves it and opens it often by herself to look at the pictures, draw the scenes and talk about the characters and story.

Cute Picture Book
This picture book has an underlying message for children about being friends with someone, even though they may be different. I loved the illustrations of Grover and Steve. They were beautiful and colorful. I am not sure the age range for this book. It reads more like a chapter book, than a picture book, with long paragraphs.

A must-read story with surprising twists
I loved this absorbing story with its uncommon characters and practical lessons. Grover and Steve are two different friends; one is an ostrich and the other is a donkey. I liked the message it contains about building bridges and breaking barriers. The scenes are well-crafted and the ending is satisfying. This is an amazing, fun and meaningful story for children.

Nice moral but tries too hard
This is a sweet story about two different animals who are best friends even though they look very different. The book is definitely not written with a light touch: the moral screams at you repeatedly. There is also a gratuitous bit about a human hunter, but no moral is drawn from that. The illustrations are fine if not inspired. Better children's books are out there, but this delivers a good moral through a decent story.

Perfect addition to any household or elementary classroom
Love love loved this! This is a book that I will be recommending to my kindergarten and lower elementary teacher friends. I love how this story puts friendship and understanding first, while acknowledging that we are all different we have our families and we CAN STILL LOVE EACH OTHER!! (Yelling for the adults in the back). I wish I could see the world through the eyes of a child - it is a beautiful view!

A delightful story with a timely message
Though the other animals cannot understand their unique and unusual friendship and bond, nothing will stop Steve and Grover from being friends. When trouble comes to the plains, the two friends’ team up to save the other animals from the brutal attacker. Well written and illustrated childrens book.
Bought this book because it was an ostrich and a donkey; caught my attention as intriguing. Reading the book to my children they loved it and related to it with their classmates as we live in a very diverse unique community. I highly recommend this book to any parent of elementary aged kids. Really teaches a great lesson of friendship with others who arent like you.
