RecommendedFull Review: After extensive research on chains and locks to protect my new mountain bikes, which will be stored on a ground floor balcony, I settle on the Onguard Mastiff.My choice came down between this 180cm Onguard Mastiff Chain and Lock and the 150cm HipLock Homie which was >50% more expensive whilst on sale! 😅The HipLock was better in 'some' ways and had excellent reviews but Onguard provided very similar and even superior security whilst being much better value.Onguard is certified Sold Secure and rated Gold for Bicycles. The chain is the same thickness as the HipLock Homie but it's stronger because it's not just hardened steel but is also reinforced with Titanium. The chain being 30cm longer was useful for me because I can lock 2 bikes and a scooter.The included lock has a quadruple locking 14mm shackle. This means it's very hard to smash, pry open and to cut you WILL need an angle grinder.I used one to lock the front wheels and another on the back wheels whilst fitted to a decent wall anchor. This setup should deter any would-be thieves as well as significantly slow down any serious attempts.Some have complained the lock has seized up for them but didn't explain how/what condition they were using the lock. Most probably it was exposed to the elements outdoors with zero attempted maintenance.Soon after getting the lock, I squirted a decent amount of bike wet lube down the keyhole. This should help the mechanism to stay well lubricated and protect it from the elements.Overall I think this is a great chain and lock which provides excellent security at a reasonable price. I've already recommended this to friends, one of whom has bought it and is equally happy.Hope you found this review and the photos helpful.

chain too short to be very useful - go for the longer version

I use it 24/7 in an extremely high-crime, high-theft, in particular bicycle-theft, area, where police storm adjacent buildings in groups of 8 armed with submachine guns and three dogs (in the United Kingdom), infested with heroine addicts.On another occasion I saw someone out my window punching someone around to interrogate him about how his bike got nicked; the assailant went in the adjacent building with the back of his head burned/scraped raw, victorious with his bicycle.That's the kind of area I live in. And this lock has served me well to protect a bicycle I bought for around £340 at an ordinary bicycle shop, one that people think is really valuable because they see me maintaining it and being a serious cyclist with five panniers, a cycling rucksack and four lights.Anyway, the result? No theft while using this. It's so long, I can use it easily to lock up my back wheel with a 'bicycle shed' that seems to be designed to prevent you from locking your bicycle up (pressumably the shed provider was advised on which shed to get by the [to my knowledge fictional] English mafia).It's nice an light given its length and that it's a chain as well -- this is due to some clever design feature, if we believe Magnum Onguard. And I think it's SoldSecure Bicycle Gold, which is really the gold standard in bicycle security done by the master locksmith's association.

I bought a new bike for my commute to work in Central London and wanted an ultra secure portable lock. I used to use a single U lock and a cable, but after watching YouTube videos of how easy it is to snip through a cable, I opted to up my security. I use a Kryptonite U lock on the front wheel and this Chain to lock up the frame and rear wheel - I read that it's better to use two different types of locks as thieves rarely carry tools to defeat two different kinds of locks.This lock is definitely heavy duty!! The weight is a bit of a challenge when going up hills (I keep my locks in my backpack) and have definitely noticed the added weight.But the proof is in the pudding - thieves targeted where I lock my bike at work and 4 bikes all got nicked at the same time and thrown in a truck. Mine was the only one left!This kind of peace of mind is totally worth the extra weight.

Our garage was broken into this week, the door was completely wrecked by the thieves. We had attached two of our bikes to a ground anchor with this chain, they were left in the garage by the thieves, despite them having a bolt cutter (which we discovered discarded nearby). Finding that we checked the chain and could see where they must have tried to get through but failed. I'm sure an angle grinder would get through it, but anything shot of that and I don't think a thief would have a chance.Very heavy, I wouldn't take this with me to chain up anywhere, but for security at home it's amazing. £40 very well spent!

Long enough for nearly every bike-securing scenario. But it is very bulky and heavy. It is not a nice thing to Have to carry in a backpack, and it feels a bit too heavy in a front basket.All that Size and weight means it Appears very secure: very effective In ensuring any thief looks for an easier target.

I bought this to secure my maxi scooter. The lock is a decent mini U-bolt design which is very easy to use and doesn’t freeze up or jam in low temperatures. I also like the black nylon cover that stops you from scratch on your bike with the chain and for the money and quality is probably one of the best buys out there.

This bike chain/lock is substantial, built to last, durable and looks like a formidable deterrent against would be bike thieves.I am very happy with my purchase and I would not hesitate to recommend to people wanting to protect their bike from theft.
