12 inch Cast Iron Skillet with Glass Lid Smooth Surface,5.98lbs

Love the smooth bottom. What a great feature. The seasoning on it was good. I did as they said, rinsed it out, dried it, put some oil on it and heated it slowly up to temp.Once the whole pan was hot (not just the bottom, I let cast iron heat until the handle is hot too) I added a little more olive oil and threw in a nice thick bone in ribeye steak.I got an absolutely wonderful sear on both sides, with a nice cool rare center. Perfect.When the meal was done, I wiped the oil out with a rubber spatula, followed by a paper towel and put it away on the shelf for next time. It was already building up more seasoning from the first use. This is going to be a great cast iron pan.I have thicker pans than this one that are around the same size. With this one I like how flat the outside and inside bottom are. The smooth surface is so much better than leaving it the rough cast surface. It will be even more non stick that way.First impressions, I'm in love. I love cast iron as it is, and this one performed flawlessly. I love that it has a matching lid, as most cast iron doesn't come with lids.

Ordered/Received this Northriver Casting - 12 inch Cast Iron Skillet with Glass Lid for our kitchen at home. We've been cooking more at home over last few years as we've gotten older and like good ole home cooked food. We have (3) smaller iron skillets that we cook/fry various foods in, and one large (12) inch skillet. But when frying fish/seafood, we needed another large 12" skillet to use at same time as we make home made french fries, onion rings and scallops & etc.. So while recently shopping online for some kitchen utensils, I saw this large 12" skillet made of cast iron with a dome glass lid to fit it and ordered it. This was exactly what we needed. Now we can prepare our whole meals at same time and no waiting time to use same skillet again and end up with "room temperature" partial meals. I like that it's solid cast iron made and has (2) handles to maneuver it while hot. Love the nice dome lid with large heat resistance silicone knob and fits great on this skillet. I ordered the smooth bottom finish as we use mostly to fry meats and seafood. This was a great addition to our kitchen cookware. This skillet is well made and should certainly last a lifetime.
