The Vanpopubs Automatic Touchless Trash Can uses infrared sensing technology with a 0.1-second response time. You’re supposed to just hold your hand above the sensor, it opens like magic, and then closes automatically after 5 seconds if nothing is detected. And to be fair…it absolutely does that. I would love to say it works great, but honestly, it might work a little too great. This thing is sensitive. Sensitive to what? I have no idea. Dust? Air molecules? Changes in the Earth’s magnetic field? Or possibly my bathroom is haunted by a ghost that is deeply committed to proper waste disposal. It sits in my completely dark, motionless bathroom with a door that is 3/4 of the way closed—no movement, no pets, no airflow—and suddenly… whirr… it opens. Then closes. Then opens. Then closes. Over and over. Just my extremely motivated trash can doing its thing for reasons known only to itself. For context, I’m one of those people who gets irrationally irritated by repetitive sounds. There’s actually a name for it—misophonia. Things like phone key clicks or chewing noises can drive me nuts. And now I can officially add “trash can opening and closing itself nonstop for no apparent reason” to that list. My bathroom is close to my bedroom, so when I’m trying to fall asleep, I get to enjoy the soothing nighttime soundtrack of open…close…open…close…open…close… like some sort of very polite but persistent robot. NOW… update to my review: apparently it pays to reread the description. You can actually disable the motion sensor by pressing the switch, which lets you keep the lid open or closed manually. This is great to know. Of course, that slightly defeats the purpose of buying an automatic touchless trash can—but it’s nice to have the option when the can decides to become overly enthusiastic about its job. All jokes aside, it’s genuinely a well-designed trash can. The size is perfect for a bathroom, the removable insert keeps bags secure, and the lid mechanism is fast and smooth. The motion sensor works extremely well—arguably too well—but now that I know I can turn it off when needed, we’re on much better terms. I love these trash cans!! These are perfect size for small spaces, stylish and blend in so well with decor, hold a lot for their size, lid stays closed to hide your trash unless motion activated to put something in it, sturdy, easy to wipe clean and the perfect color that matches anything! I would highly recommend these and I am so pleased with the quality that I will be purchasing more for our new home as it has additional bathrooms.

Well, I'm confused as to how many stars to give the product: if I rate the one that still works, I would give it 5 stars. Such a cool idea, perfect for a cramped space between toilet and sink - works perfectly. The other stopped working after a month (despite minimal use - in a second bathroom we never use). I guess I will find out how good customer service is when I figure out who to contact. Hopefully the one that still works continues to work.

These cans are great to keep the dogs from grabbing tissues out of the garbage and tearing them up. So easy to set up and use and a good size. Update. So they worked great then changed the batteries and it no longer works. Very disappointed. I don’t recommend them at all after that. Don’t waste your money
