once I got the watch I was pleased and are hoping that it will be better than the last one

Optimum watches are the standard for most dinghy racers and these watches do work well, with an easy-to-read face plus count-down sound signals and a range of starting sequences. The big problem comes when the battery runs out - because replacing them is difficult and the watches often never work again. The case is held together by tiny screws, so you need a jeweller's screwdriver set to open it. Some have screws fixed in so tight they risk burring as you undo them. Then, the system for replacing the battery involves undoing an internal screw, moving a retaining clip and sliding the new battery in before reversing the process. This is very clunky and looks like a design from decades ago - in days when jewellers did these repairs. I've attempted it this three times and on every occasion the watch then failed to work ever again. To be fair, the installed battery does last a long time - typically over a year. So if you're happy buying a new watch every year or two then this is an OK buy.

Christmas gift for my daughter, a newbie Cross Country rider. Now she won't have to share with my grandson. I bought his red one here, too. So much more affordable than through horse catalogue magazines! A WORD OF ADVICE though: practice riding with it several times before competing - my grandson's Thoroughbred, always a touchy fellow anyway, was distracted by the ticking as the watch does its timing, shaking his head trying to figure out what the new sound was.

No owners manual included, and seller indicates that they are not provided one to give to the buyer.

Good price. My daughter was thrilled and says she loves it. Works as advertised.
