              Neela Paniz grew up in Bombay, India. After moving to the US, Paniz opened Chutney's Indian take-out and the hugely successful Bombay Cafe in Los Angeles, and a contemporary Indian restaurant, Neela's, in Napa. She is also the author of The Bombay Cafe, which put her on the map as one of the leading voices of contemporary Indian cuisine. Since selling her restaurants, Paniz has taught cooking classes, provided recipes for many magazine articles, and been a presenter at The Culinary Institute of America.

    Could have been better..

Could have been better..... Some of the recipes are impractical and make no sense! They seem to have been "adjusted" for the slow cooker. Imagine eight hours for a soup! There are a few saving graces like the meat dishes which are ideal for a slow cooker.  Didn't we all know that! It's a 'publisher's book', if you know what i mean.... but she admits that in the foreword. Regular slow cooker users in India can give it a miss.

Delighted with the book. The chicken birianee and the potato pea curry tried so far.  Not used to asfoetada sp so i leave it out.  An excellent range of lentil/dahl recipes.  I have made curries for years and i find the recipes in this book truly pleasing.
