The way this works is that it reflects heat up from a heat source. So if you are looking to use this on asphalt, lay underfloor heating on top and then lay a new floor….I’m guessing more asphalt…I guess that could work in theory but your new asphalt would melt your underfloor heating setup rendering it pointless. **Q: Can this be used on a painted concrete floor prior to tiling** A: I would suggest you contact the manufacturer. The aim of the product is to create a barrier in the surface of the base material. I put three coats on, each one taking longer to dry as the barrier formed. I personally would think that putting it on a painted surface would reduce the efficacy of the product. It depends on how important the thermal barrier is to you. **Q: How is this insulation compared to insulation boards? We've been told not to use insulation boards and are worried of heat loss into concrete subfloor** A: I was tiling direct onto a concrete base floor, and i didn't want to use insulating boards underneath tiles as i wanted to insure a level finish. I read about this product in a trade magazine did some research and decided to go for it. The product is like a thick cream, it is easy to brush onto a solid floor, and appears to form a barrier over the concrete. Does it work? well all I can say is that the room does indeed feel warmer, our wood burning stove is enough to keep the room at a nice temperature and when used the radiator is now kept on 3. How much of this is aided because of the product i cant say, but i can say that the floor tiles are not very cold to the touch so i guess not to much heat is being lost through the floor.
