Your ceiling joists must be on 24 inch centers for this to work but that spacing is almost a universal standard in the US. Use of the provided template is a must and if you are attempting a one person install consider cutting the template in half and temporarily nailing it to the ceiling to make it easier to tape it into final position. Just be sure to carefully mark the template before cutting it so that you can accurately line up the two halves when putting them on the ceiling. The system raises and lowers smoothly with the provided hand crank but using an electric drill is much easier.
