Awesome keyboard, some software issues
Overall, great keyboard! Types really well, mx2a brown switches are great. Very consistent sound across all keys. The default "install cherry software" key on FN + F9 opens a scary windows run command that navigates to a Chinese website (cherry.cn). Software doesn't seem to allow for layered color effects (like a default color + ripples).Overall great keyboard, I would like to see some software improvements, as well as a way to remove the macro from the FN + F9 key.

Amazing keyboard.
I have been waiting for its release for months, and I'm not disappointed in any way. The board is heavy and feels premium. It has customizable RGB and custom macros through cherry software. No issues and very, very happy overall.

Meh.
CHERRY XTRFY MX 3.1 Mechanical Wired Gaming Keyboard | New MX2A Switches (Black, MX2A Brown)Everything about this keyboard exudes quality but unfortunately this is not for the enthusiast, at least anyone short of the extreme enthusiast well versed in soldering and desoldering.Who is it for? Anyone who is not a keyboard hobbyist just looking for a solid, quality keyboard, without care or knowledge of how a properly setup keyboard can be a slice of heaven to type on. This is not that kind of keyboard and it is not meant for the hobbyist. It has soldered switches, enough said. The MX2A brown switches are a little clacky and the stem wobbles far too much for my liking. It is advertised as being quiet, but is a far cry from silent, and there are silenced tactile switches out there that cost a fraction per switch. Furthermore, the factory lube job is pretty uniform, great for cutting out spring ping, but it is scratchy and not fun for an enthusiast with certain expectations out of their keyboards. All the 'innovations' that Cherry put into these MX2A's are superseded years ago by other top manufacturers of switches that have innovated leaps beyond what these MX2A's offer. There are smoother, quieter, and more solid switches out there that don't wobble as bad as these. What do the MX2A's offer? They offer reliability and performance meant to hold up for years to come. At least that's what we are led to believe. I have no reason to doubt it because the quality of these genuine Cherry switches are second to none.So the keyboard otherwise is mostly a positive experience. It has a slight give on the key presses and the layout is perfect. The lighting is subtle and not particularly bright, but subdued lighting is my preference. What is very interesting is how the whole rainbow of colors can be selected for the backlighting and it is not limited to the typical 7 or 8 options on so many generic keyboards, and selecting the keyboard color hotkey brings up a landscape of colors to choose from, a visual preview as it were, a feature that is delightful and unexpected. The chassis is aluminum and sturdy, though a fingerprint magnet. The keycaps are quality double shot with a disappointing 'gamer' font. Nobody should be using that font for any keyboard. What is sorely lacking on the typing experience is the rattles on the stabilizers. The rattles are really bad on this one. Unfortunately, these rattles cannot be fixed easily, as everything is soldered. It's a shame.I do not really like this keyboard for all the above reasons but then I am not the typical target demographic for this keyboard. For the target demographic I am sure they will have a very satisfying experience with this one.

Exemplary performing gaming/office keyboard - may not appeal to all keyboard enthusiasts
The Cherry XTRFY MX 3.1 packs a full-size keyboard layout into a sleek extruded aluminum housing intended to preserve the longevity. It boasts gamer-enthusiast features like German-made Cherry MX2A gold crosspoint switches and noise dampening foam. The key layout is cleanly presented and there's a row of LED's above the arrow keys to indicate the status of Num/Caps/Scroll lock functions. The Cherry profile ABS shine-through keycaps with gamer-inspired font legends provide a pleasing visual display of the 16.8 million colors from the bright RGB lighting along with the attractive looking side panel grills. The keycap legends are crisp and cleanly integrated through double-shot molding and there is an abrasion-resistant coating applied providing a comfortable feel. The aluminum housing is finished with a pristine silver texture with a recessed Cherry logo on the front panel and a cut out for the slightly recessed USB connector on the rear panel. It looks like it will accept a variety of custom cable jack sizes and the keyboard comes with a nice braided cable as well. There are provisions for 2 typing angles by installing a pair of threaded feed inserts on the front edge. This keyboard is clearly targeting gaming enthusiasts with an emphasis on delivering consistent performance and long-term reliability. It trades off niche features like hall-effect switches for long-term reliability of Cherry MX2A mechanical switches and a rugged build quality. The sound profile of the keyboard is very quiet; almost silent as compared with the thocky or clacky sounds from keyboards with tape mods and removed internal foam layers. Likewise, the keycaps have relatively thin walls and relatively quiet, making this a very suitable keyboard to use in an office environment. While this is a very competent keyboard with a premium build quality, it may not appeal to all keyboard enthusiast with other target features (like sound profile) in mind. The typing experience is good, but not as satisfying as the poppy feel and sound of a Rainy 75, Bridge 75, or ND75.For me, this keyboard has a very specific consumer in mind. If you're a gamer and appreciate a reliable keyboard with super-consistent response and long-term reliability, this should be on your list for consideration. Or, I would also consider this a very good contender for a full-sized reliable office keyboard (assuming that the RGB lighting settings were turned off or set to one color). The 110 key layout will certainly appeal to many for office use. However, this may not necessarily appeal to keyboard enthusiasts who are looking for that ASMR sound and feel that they are pursuing with the latest round of product offerings and custom mods. The MX 3.1, however, delivers reliable performance and valued features for it's key gamer demographic. Highly recommended.
