nice color, but much smaller than listed and quality is poor.
the bowl looks nice. it is not as beige as shown on the amazon page. rather, a soft green color. it is not boringly uniform and has a few lines in darker green to mark the front.sadly, thats where the good stuff ends. the bowl is much smaller than listed. 12.5cm (4.9 inches)??? that is a lie. seems the seller intentionally misleading buyers. the bowl that was sent is barely 11cm (4.3 inches) when measuring the top outer ring. measured on the inside, it is barely 10.7cm (4.21 inches). and it obviously gets much smaller towards the bottom. the small size of this bowl makes it very difficult to whisk matcha with a regular size whisk. you must be extra careful not to hit the sides of the bowl. unless you like broken bamboo pieces with your matcha.there is a reason why matcha lovers prefer to use chawan (matcha bowl). the size makes all the difference, if you actually intent to whisk matcha in chawan, look elswhere. if you simply want a bowl to drink matcha from, then why bother paying extra for a matcha chawan? any bowl, cup, glass, pot etc will do.craftsmanship is below average. it was most likely a factory reject. slide your finger along the rim of the bowl and see/feel places where glaze is missing. turn the bowl upside down and see that for some reason the base that is usually left unglazed has been glazed over. the brown base has been covered in green in a rather odd pattern.important to mention: since foot of the bowl is very short and covered in glaze, not only it is sliding in your hands, it gets very hot, making it very uncomfortable to hold even for a short time, while drinking hot matcha. it can actually burn your fingers. never had this problem with other bowls.for $8 it was reasonably priced. the price doubled in a few weeks since. if you cannot find anything better and happen to have a very small whisk, it might be ok until you get a better one. now that the price doubled, you can find plenty of bowls on amazon in that price range. just do not buy this one as a gift for a matcha lover.sorry to say, even cheap matcha bowls from daiso are better than this one. they have proper size/shape and much better for whisking matcha. 2 stars only because the bowl looks pretty. just not for matcha.

Very happy with this chawan!
My chawan bowl arrived today, and I am happy with what I received. The bowl is the same shape as the picture, but the color is a soft green with the brown base accent. It is a glossy finish and has some brown swirls in the inside design. It appears to have been hand made on a potters wheel by a skilled artisan. It came in a small thin, cardboard box with a piece of tissue paper placed inside the bowl, which was then placed in Amazon's standard shipping box with air bags. The bowl box was taped, but had been opened. Probably by an Amazon employee who checked it for breakage. That of course is no negative issue. I read a few negative reviews about customers who received their chawan in pieces. My bowl has no damage. I'm very happy to have ordered it despite the negative reviews. It can always be returned. I filled the bowl to the rim with water, and then measured the water in a measuring cup. This bowl holds 400ml.= 1 and 2/3 thirds cups. It's a good size for any beverage.I'm adding a few comments to my review after it was posted. When I washed the bowl, and looked at it more closely I've noticed that the brown color at the base, and the brown swirls I describe above are the natural color of the clay that is used to make it. The chawan is glazed over with the green color, and then a clear glaze is added on the entire bowl except where it rest on the kiln shelf. It's very skillfully done, and I would recommend this chawan to a friend, and present as a gift.

I 💗💗💗 this lovely handcrafted chasen
In spite of the many reviews of broken bowls, I took a chance and ordered this matcha bowl. So happy to open the shipping carton to find a perfectly intact bowl in a green cardboard box ready to be tied with a bow for gifting. I'm keeping this one, though, but will probably be buying several more pieces for myself and for giving to friends and family. This bowl is definitely handmade as evidenced by the irregular pattern and color very much like the pieces in my handmade tea set from Japan. The color is a soft green - almost like celadon. This lovely bowl certainly makes my morning matcha latte much more enjoyable; so comforting to hold the warm bowl in my hands while slowly sipping the tea. I will also be using this for miso soup, as well as coffee.

GORGEOUS, WELL MADE, AN ABSOLUTE GEM!
I read all the negative feedback and decided to take a chance on these bowls. I ordered 6 of them and they arrived to my home moments ago. As I opened the box, each one was packaged better than I could have imagined; thus, no breaks or chips. The bowls are NOT exactly what they look like in the picture. THEY ARE SO MUCH BETTER! They look like professional pottery - well made and a blend of soft green and brown. They are smooth as glass with a gorgeous finish. I love them and I highly recommend them to you. Please look at the pictures I took of them.

Aesthetically this is very nice. There are some imperfections in the color and glazing, but I think that is intentional and kind of adds to the charm. I think this is a bit on the small side though. I am new to matcha so that might be user error though. I like it when I go through the trouble of making my matcha in a more traditional way (i.e. with the chasen etc.).

Nice Chaiwan!!!
I wasn't expecting much for the price but this really is a nice Chaiwan. Sure, it's not super expensive but it does the job it was made for. And it's constructed very well.

pretty lady
The bowl I received doesn't look exactly like the one shown in the picture, but in my opinion actually looks a lot nicer. It's a nice light green. I wanna say seafoam but I'd probably be wrong. It has some fine brownish/purplish detail around the lip, and the base as shown in the picture. It looks handmade due to the small amount of 'imperfections' which gives it character. Not sure why others have said the bowl is not big enough for matcha. I have tried bigger bowls and it's actually harder for me to whisk a larger area and am sometimes left with chunks. This bowl is perfect.

Beautiful
Delighted with this Matcha bowl, particularly for the price. It has a fine mint tone to it which goes beautifully with the Matcha theme. Comes very well packaged. Will order more as soon as it is available again.

Wrong color advertised !
I was expecting a beige bowl but instead I got this hideous green! You should add the color on your listing! Now I have to go out my way to return it!
