Great storyteller...
Mark Rashid's experiences are well written and even makes me laugh out loud at times! This is not a training book but gives you a lot to think about, process and reflect on in your experiences with horses.I read his book, Horses never Lie the heart of passive leadership, first, it starts at the beginning of his journey with horses. It helps you to understand things he mentions in this book.

Always awesome
So much is said, and unsaid. So much to learn but words just get in the way. Watch. Feel. Do. Then do again. Eagerly awaiting the next book. Thanks Mark. -from a tiny little town in far sw colorado...

Incredible!!!
I haven't finished this yet, but I can't put it down. I didn't pay much attention to Mark Rashid until I went to his clinics at Equine Affaire in Massachusetts a couple of years ago. Now I own all of his books. I wrote him off as a typical natural horseman and he's not. He focuses on the communication between horses and humans. He is very good at spotting a rider's little foibles and helps them adjust their body so the rider can follow the horse's movement - not the other way. This isn't a training book. He ties his life experience into his horsemanship. He is very reflective and discusses the challenges he faced after he had several significant falls with injuries.I love books and I love to read. I love the way a book feels, particularly hardcovers. This is a nice one - especially the dust cover and quality of paper. Best of all, it has a stitched binding, which you don't see much anymore. He is a very good rider and a very good clinician.

Another good Rashid read.
This author has a way with words. Of course the topic is one of my favorites. Horses are and have been my "happy place". I liked his first books a little better as they dealt more with the "old man" and his learning experiences. I wish I had been mentored by the "old man" when I was growing up and learning about horses. At any rate this is a fell good book and I highly recommend it.

Not all horse training per se but a LOT MORE!
I’m finding myself reading all of Mark’s books after attending one of his clinics recently. This is an impressive book for me that echoed some of the tribulations of my own life lessons. It highlights the fact that a certain horse that came my way is MY teacher vs the other way around. AWESOME BOOK!!!

A Whole Lot More Than Horsemanship
Horsemanship Through Life is awesome. Mark really bares his soul and has written a very personal book. The thoughts and journeys shared here will not only make one a better horseman, but a better person all the way around. For those of you that have not met Mark in person, you may think this book is a bunch of hooey...but it truly is the essence of the man, Mark Rashid. Mark is a man of integrity whose horsemanship ALWAYS has what is best for the horse at heart. Mark is a great teacher and truly a master of horsemanship and an ever evolving student of life. This book touched me deeply. Attending Mark's clinics and reading his books has had a profound effect on both my horsemanship and my life. I am proud to call him my horsemanship sensei.

Mark Rashid's books are always great.
I have this book in hardcover and I have read it several times. I love all of Mark Rashid's books, including this one. I purchased a paperback copy as I find it more portable. I'm reading it for the fourth time and wanted to read while traveling. Mark Rashid offers important insights into thinking about the horse with the horse's best interests at the forefront.

So many light-bulb moments
My wife is the horsey one and reading this book was really about making her happy. As a leadership coach I thought it might be interesting. It was much more than that! The stories are great and made me think. The relevance of the horse stuff to everyday life is remarkable. It's not technical and even a non-horse person like me now feels I know a little more about what to do the next time I get on a horse. This book not only made me feel good, it made me want to spend more time with people and with horses. Now that will make my wife happy.Read this book and enjoy!

No techniques, no tricks, no gimics - simply the best book to help anyone understand what it takes to be a true horseman no matter what your experience or skill level. If you only have time for one book this year - this should be it
