A miracle spray!
My whole family had a cold just after Christmas which clung on for around ten days. I took Vicks First Defense within a couple of hours of getting the telltale scratchy throat and then took it four times per day. I had a stuffy nose the following day and then on day three my nose was runny. Then! Like magic! On day four the cold had completely disappeared! This spray undoubtedly worked. You have to use it four times per day and spray it diagonally towards your ear - do NOT spray it straight up your nostril. Also, breathe in gently, do NOT inhale! Yes, it is pretty uncomfortable for ten minutes with quick fire sneezing but stick with it and you'll be cold free before you know it.

Very effective!
I must admit, I was dubious as to how good or bad this was going to be. And I’m very happy to say it’s definitely helped me escape getting a full on cold/cough on two occasions so far. As soon as I felt the first signs of germs inside me, I was giving this spray a good test of its effectiveness. And so far so good! And I would definitely recommend you try this yourself!

It seems to work
It seems to be effective, there is a small amount of a burning sensation but I get that with most nasal sprays

It works well.
Excellent, really helps with keeping colds at bay, you need to use as soon as you feel a sniffle.

It does work, provided you use it properly and are patient.
Before spraying, sit down and tilt your head back slightly. Place the nozzle as far up your nose as it will go (without excessive force) and dispense three sprays. Then; holding the other nostril down with your finger, take in some gentle breaths, encouraging the fluid to enter up into your nasal cavities (part that gets blocked when you have a cold). Be careful you don’t inhale too hard as it can be quite unpleasant this – though you do get used to it. It feels like acid is being zonked up your nasal cavity. They recommend in the instructions for you NOT to do this, but I’ve found it works better if you do. Up in your nasal tubes is where the cold virus resides and develops. Ironically when you take the spray, it may give you cold like symptoms for up to an hour or so, sometimes a little longer. This is your body reacting to the foreign nature of the spray, trying to get rid of it. Hopefully as it gets rid of it, the spray will have trapped much of the virus by that time, expelling it out of your nose as your body naturally cleanses (sneezing or blowing nose). It’s important that as soon as you ‘think’ you have a cold developing then you must start taking the spray, up to 3 doses per day (morning, afternoon and night). We all occasionally feel tingles in our nasal cavities, and it doesn’t always mean you’ve picked up a cold virus or indeed if it’ll develop into one. However, I recommend you don’t take the risk and don’t wait until you know for sure it’s the cold starting. You could end up wasting a couple of days, giving the virus more time to ‘bed-in’ and grow. The spray works best at preventing the cold if you use it immediately on suspicion. Once you start taking it, how many days do you take it for? That’s a good question, and it all depends. I’ve been using the spray on/off for 4/5 months now and find that you need to listen to your body, or rather your nose. This is going to sound gross; but if you can ‘pick’ solid matter with you finger from your nose, that’s usually a good sign that the virus has been expelled and you may stop taking the spray. But if you’re still using hankies or feeling tingles in your nose, it’s probably best to continue with the treatment. If in doubt, continue the treatment for a further day – just to be sure. The shortest time I’ve taken the spray for, when first feeling the cold symptoms is 4 days. The maximum time is two weeks. Depending on your luck? the spray will do one of two things: 1) Stop the virus developing to any perilous level and eradicates it within 3-4 days. You will not develop the cold as the virus has been completely killed. 2) The spray is unable to kill the virus completely but manages to contain it. With this, the spray effectively pauses the virus, preventing it from spreading/taking hold. You then become dependent on your body’s natural immune system destroying the virus which it will do naturally in two weeks or so. Clearly option 1) would be the most desirable, but if it ends up being option 2) then I urge you to be patient and continue taking the spray. If you give up taking the spray after a week (before your body has had a chance to fight and kill off the virus) THEN it WILL take hold, developing into a full cold, and you’ll need to wait a FURTHER two weeks at least for your body to fight it. I believe this is what a lot of people are reporting on the reviews: they have become frustrated, impatient they need to take the spray for longer than they were expecting to. As I work in a job that involves being around a lot of people all the time, I’ve found that during the cold season (November to February) it’s a good idea to take a dosage when I arrive at work. In doing this it appears to prevent ANY virus from getting in at all. At the weekends, I don’t do this. If you’re like me and you HATE having the cold/sore throat then this spray is a godsend and definitely well worth the money. Although I’ve only been using it for 4/5 months I can say with confidence that the reason why I’ve not got a cold, despite being exposed to it at work continuously and the cold weather, is down to this spray. During the cold season I’ll never be without it now.

So good! All Parents need is to get this!
I was one of those annoying people who used get ill constantly and it lasts weeks each time. I thought I’d try this- it’s amazing stuff! My toddler comes home with so many illnesses and we would catch everything she brought home. Now though, one cough on us from her and we are sniffing this bad boy every 4 hours for 2-3 days and we have practically zero symptoms. I get a bit of fatigue and the ‘cold’ eyes but no bunged up nose, no disgusting phlegm no cough lasting weeks. It does make your nose sting- try not to put it up so far, you will get some mucous and a nasty taste for up to half a hour but I would much prefer this than be stuck going mad with a cold! Shame there isn’t one made for children as I feel sorry for her but I guess they have to have some ability to fight infection at a young age.

I can never be without this
In case you don't know about this nasal spray, it is perfect for a quick spray if you've been in contact with someone who's sniffling, or if you think you might have caught a cold. It's very effective at killing off a good percentage of virus's making their way to your sinus's and killing them off before they infect you. If you have caught a cold, you will still get it, but I believe that this product helps keep the infection milder and doesn't last as long. I've been using it for years. It can be uncomfortable when you use it, it usually makes me sneeze quite a bit, but this doesn't last and is worth the slight discomfort.

This really worked for me! I had gone to a butterfly conservatory and a million kids were there too. The next day, I woke up with a cold in my throat that I hoped would go away by mid-morning as I can sometimes fight it off. However, the cold was getting stronger and by noon I decided to use the Vicks First Defence. You can definitely tell it's Vics, I used it at 12:30pm, 4:30pm and 8:30pm, and then the cold was gone. I bought a separate one for my husband to use and he went to the cottage with his buddy and caught a cold on a Friday night and didn't bring the Vics. He finally used it on Sunday night and it didn't work for him. Don't wait until the 36 hour mark. Take the Vics with you if you go away to use a.s.a.p.

Hey I bought this hoping it would clear sinuses from typical cold/flu. I found it dud little to nothing. Saline spray was much more effective. If you spray this too deep you’ll fall into a parallel universe where only pain is the currency; DO NOT INHALE DEEPLY WHEN YOU SPRAY.

Do not sniff as you spray or it will burn your nose, but it works the best product I have ever bought for colds. Will buy again, good thing I seen the advertising on tv, I can't buy it in my local pharmacy and they can't order it.
