Letters from Country Life

I read an advanced copy of this book. Josh Pons delivers a superbly written account of history and horse racing through the letters of his grandfather who worked as a secretary and scribe for the iconic August Belmont. This is first-hand material seen only through the eyes of Pons and relayed to us so beautifully. You don't need to love horses or horse racing to enjoy and appreciate this book. This is literary writing at it's finest and history at it's finest.

At Country Life Farm the history is the teacher. In this very personal Pons family saga it is in the searching that the lessons are found. If you love horses and history you will find this book interesting and thought provoking. You will find that life on a farm raising Thoroughbred horses is full of ups and downs , but this family and this farm have survived for nearly 100 years.
