Q: Is this the new version of the gdi-exbm901?

Yes but they are both great. The original Boulder has a built in waterproof compartment. The Boulder+ ( this sku) has a removeable waterproof bag, cup holders and a bottle openor. That's the main difference.

Q: As anyone experienced a buzzing or static noise from the ecoboulder+? I returned the product and wanted to reorder but not if this is normal.

Same problem for me too! Whenever the speaker engages to play sound it starts a constant static sound. If you pause the music the static remains for a bit then stops until you hit play and it engages to play again. So sad. Otherwise would be an awesome speaker. I thought maybe it was a high noisefloor for the bluetooth, but it happens with the aux cable too. Because the static is a constant level, if you're outdoors playing the speaker loudly it shouldn't matter. But for indoor quiet listening the static is clearly discernible and incredibly off-putting. Not good! I returned my first one because I thought maybe it was a manufacturing defect. But the replacement one was the exact same problem so I assumed it was just how the speaker works.

Q: Can I plug a guitar into this unit, like where the mic plugs in ?

Yes, but it’s not optimized for guitar play, morefor music and speaking /signing.

Q: is the battery a standard size battery?

Yes, the battery is a standard lead acid battery and is replaceable.
