## Description

Makena Williams has a passion for fashion, and clothes are a way for her to connect with others. But when Makena experiences racial injustice in her own neighborhood, she decides to post more than her OOTD (outfit of the day)—she figures out how to use fashion to speak up about injustice

Review: Favorite Christmas Present - I recently purchased the American Girl World by Us Makena Doll & Book set, and it has been a delightful addition to our collection. The 18-inch Makena doll is beautifully crafted, featuring brown eyes and medium-length dark-brown textured hair styled in elegant twists. Her outfit—a pleated skirt with a pink-and-purple ombre print and a glittery elastic waistband, paired with a black graphic tee that reads “See me, hear me, know me”—is both stylish and meaningful. The attention to detail is remarkable, from the three golden butterfly barrettes adorning her hair to the vibrant pink shoes completing her ensemble. The quality of the materials used ensures durability, making it suitable for active play while maintaining its aesthetic appeal. Accompanying the doll is the book “Makena: See Me, Hear Me, Know Me,” which provides an engaging narrative that delves into important themes such as addressing racism and understanding diversity. The inclusion of real girl profiles and reader questions fosters meaningful discussions, making it an educational tool as well as an enjoyable read. What sets this set apart is its ability to combine play with learning. My child has not only enjoyed styling Makena’s hair and outfits but has also gained valuable insights from the book’s content. It’s heartening to see a toy that encourages both imaginative play and social awareness.
