Fairest 4: Of Men and Mice

Cinderella, part 4
Collects Fairest 21-26The "Fairest" series is a semi-independent spin-off series from Bill Willingham's "Fables" series (which has just concluded.) How can it be semi-independent? Isn't that like being a little bit pregnant? Okay, yeah, you caught me. The series really works better if you've also read the Fables series. There will be several things the writers simply assume you already know from the main series. For this particular book, you're assumed to know the basic concept of the Fables series (fairy tale, nursery rhyme, and other fictional characters are in our modern day world), as well as who Brandish and Mrs. Spratt are. So, you're better off reading this after Fables Vol. 20: Camelot . If you've read all of Fables and you were wondering "What happened to the giant rat monsters from Issue # 130?" this is their story. This is the fourth and possibly last semi-independent (um..) Cinderella story. You don't need to have read the previous three Cinderella: From Fabletown with Love Cinderella: Fables Are Forever Fairest: In All the Land before reading this one. Man-mice hybrids attempt to assassinate Snow and her children, and also blow up Cinderella's shoe shop. Cindy goes on a journey to track down the source of the hybrids, with help from Dickory the mouse and Ramayan (shouldn't that just be Rama?). Could it be her fairy godmother? As I said above, the story doesn't quite work unless you've been keeping up with Fables.Written by Marc AndreykoArt by Shawn McManusCover art and original series covers by Adam HughesFairest concludes in the next volume: Fairest Vol. 5: The Clamour for Glamour

Fantastic -- and not a bad place for newbies to come in.
The spin off series to Fables, one of the best elements of the Fairest TPB line is that you can enter into it without needing to know what has happened before, but if you are reading both lines, one clearly effects the other! Very clever writing, great characters. Meet Cinderella - if you have not before - the Bad Ass of the Fables community! Hate the idea these series are coming to an end, but understand the desire to finish up when you are at the top of your game (Ala Gaiman's Sandman)

Really Great Series
A really great series. If you enjoy Fables, you will enjoy the fairest series as well. I liked that these are soft back and thin. They fit on my self very well without taking too much room.

Three Stars
Not as rich as "Fables", but still an enjoyable read.

Very disappointing.
Having loved the previous Cinderella tales I was looking forward to this. However, the story was rushed and nowhere near the standards of the previous books.
