Hi Kevin! BHT (Butylated Hydroxytoluene) is used in a wide range of cosmetic formulations and food products as an antioxidant at concentrations from 0.0002% to 0.5%. Their function is to prevent natural oils from oxidizing or going rancid. The available studies on BHT, along with the case literature, demonstrate no significant irritation or sensitization. Recognizing the low concentration at which this ingredient is used, it is considered safe as used in cosmetic formulations, according both U.S. and European regulations.
