Queen I 2024 Mix

Remix of a prelude of what was to come
There are a few albums recorded in the early '70s that just never sounded "right", the first Queen album and Rush's Caress of Steel immediately come to mind. With this complete remix of Queen I, at least one of them has been dealt with. The first Queen album contains some incredible material that has been for the most part forgotten in the canon of Queen. Other than Keep Yourself Alive, the music was largely dropped from their live performances in the late '70s. Its a shame, there are several very powerful songs that really show off the musicianship of the band, and of course Freddie's incredible voice. The song Liar was really a prelude to what would come afterward with powerful lead vocals, incredible backing parts, guitar orchestration, everything that made Bohemian Rhapsody so popular a few years later. The only thing lacking, was the production on the album was not great. If you read interviews with band members, they talk about less than optimum conditions in the studio including a drum set that was horrible and sounded like Roger Taylor played drums wrapped in heavy blankets. Thankfully, that is one of the key improvements to this remix. All parts are crisp, clean and exceptionally well presented. If you are not familiar with Queens early work, definitely check this new version of a classic out.

Amazing remaster
Normally I am not a fan of remastering classic albums. Usually it seems like just an EQ and enhancing of parts that weren't that important to start with. This is totally different. "Queen" is my favorite album from the band. I have listened to it too many times to count, so I know every nook, cranny, nuance, and squeak from this recording. But in this remaster, they are all there but it sounds like they re-recorded with today's technology keeping all of the parts I have known from the original recording. The drums sound like they are in the room with you. The guitar leads cut through with mesmerizing clarity. The biggest differences are in songs like "Jesus" where the band has the musical circus. In the original recording this gets a bit muddled, like the engineers didn't know how to handle all of the sound. In this release it is clear and beautiful. I would highly recommend to anyone that loves Queen and this album particularly to purchase it. I have been a Queen fan since I could buy their albums the day after they were released and I love this new release. Buy it now and I anxiously await any future remasters if they can retain this quality and sound reproduction.

Despite the ill-advised f'ery of Freddie's vocals on Night Comes Down, get this
That they pitch-corrected Freddie on Night Comes Down is a travesty, but... the instrumentation's mastering on this new mix is just stunning. Especially for the drums, which sounded dull and thudding on the original release.

Great reborn
I’m so satisfied with the reborn. As this is not just a remaster but remix that means they made the master from scratch again. I feel that I’m listening a live album. I love it.

I'm not gonna unwrap it
It's going straight into my queen vinyl collection..I will never play it..don't ask..However I have heard it on a streaming platform beginning with the letter S, and it is fantastic..it sounds clearer and sharper than the original and overall just great....my only gripe is a slight alteration to Freddie's vocals..I have an untrained ear so it doesn't bother me too much except for one part on "liar" when Freddie sings the line " why won't they leave me alone". The note is raised unnecessarily in my opinion on the "alone"...apart from that it's amazing..unless you work in the music editing trade and have an ear for tiny alterations, pay no attention to all the critical reviews..well worth the money...oh ..and the drums..omg. they sound so much better. Not the dull dampened sound we are used to...Roger must be chuffed with that..

Here come the drums...
I get the feeling this is going to be a "Marmite" album for a lot of people. The fact that the original (which is great by the way) has been tampered with is going to be a step to far.Personally speaking, however, I love what has been done for the most part. The most noticable differences between this remix and the original are the separation between the different instruments - the original was a bit muddy in this respect - and the drums have gone from sounding fairly dull and flat to being loud, fresh and clear.Gaining an extra track "Mad the Swine" is the icing on the cake for me.I've listened to it a few times now - and am thorouhly enjoying the experience.Considering I've been listening to the original for most of my life (I'm in my 50s) it's a surprise at how fresh and new this feels. Your mileage may vary, but I love it!
