The Orchid Expert: Name that orchid - and get it to flower again

Easy to read with great knowledge

Almost there on what I need to care for my different types of orchids. Most information I have to gather from bits about compost, watering, light etc however what really helps is stating the genus and then giving their own particular needs in these areas. This book does that with most of them, some a bit wishy washy but then as stated, I will have to learn what my plants are communicating to me. Their 'language' is not necessarily the same as other plants from what I can gather...

Tells you what you need to know about orchids.

The Orchid Expert is an excellent book, very well illustrated, full of vibrant pictures, both photographic and drawn. I found it well laid out, concise yet very informative and highly accessible to those new to orchids.There were however a few places where I felt the author could have added an extra line or two to elaborate on a statement, for example: "Do not turn the plant when it is in bud", but he does not explain why; and "Do not water newly-potted plants by the immersion method", but again does not explain why - you are left to guess.Overall though, it is a brilliant book and very well priced.

A very good all round, informative book with good illustrations. The text is clearly laid out, and the format of the book is intuative. It deals briefly with the general care of growing orchids at home and the type of problems encountered in keeping them healthy. The main section of the book is an identification of the various common types of orchid available for the home grower. There is a small but useful contact list of various different orchid growing associations and contacts. A book well worth having if you are just starting out, or wanting to identify the different types of orchids commonly grown.

Like all the expert books in this series it gives you a lot of detail about the different plants. The only thing that stopped me from giving this was the condition of the book (I know that I sent for one that had been used, but I expected it to be not so faded on the cover and the back of the book had quite a few creases in it!) they didn't have any new ones as I would have purchased it in mint condition. Nevertheless, it will surfice.

The book is amazing, easy to reade also understand. Gave simple nstuctions with step by step actions on how to look after your plants. Also pictures to identify those you have and how to achieve better plants and what to purchase in fertilizers exc. Well worth the money.
