Tiny pottery pieces would work well.. but it’s so tiny
This pottery plaster board is well made and has a nice, smooth surface. It’s also surprisingly sturdy, and I haven’t had any issues with it chipping or breaking off and getting pieces of plaster into my clay, which is definitely a plus when working with pottery. That said, this thing is TINY! At just under 4 x 4 inches, it’s really only large enough for a small mug or similarly sized piece. If you’re making tiny pottery pieces, it could be very useful, and the plaster does a good job of helping pull moisture from the clay during drying. The compact size also makes it easy to transport to pottery classes or store in a small studio space. The listing also mentions using it for wedging, but I honestly can’t see what I would realistically wedge on a piece this small. For that purpose, I’d definitely want something much larger. My biggest issue is the price versus the size. Pottery plaster itself is primarily calcium sulfate hemihydrate (Plaster of Paris), so if you already have pottery plaster, you could potentially make your own larger plaster drying boards for much less. Overall, it’s a nice little board and works as advertised, but I really wish it were larger for the price. If it were twice the size, I’d find it much more useful for everyday pottery work. As it stands, I think it’s best suited for very small pieces, students, or someone who specifically needs a compact drying surface.

great to speed up drying.
This gypsum drying board is perfect for speeding up the drying time on the bottom of my mugs if they are a tad too wet for trimming. It is about the size of my hand so it will only do one mug at a time. It was a little smaller than I anticipated but that was my fault for not reading the size. See my photo for size reference, it is sturdy with a good thickness. It is easy to use and wipe clean.
