Wow
This is the book that I didn't know I craved. An original story, as well as a plot that's fully of depth and realistic character progression and development.Honestly can't wait to get my hands on the next in the series!

Ash princess
Ash Princess was a great read full that I enjoyed. It was a typical YA fantasy That contained variations on what we have seen before: a battle for the kingdom, rebellion, a love triangle and friends to lovers. As a debut novel I would say Ash Princess is written well and has the right pace. Laura Sebastian does a great job and I look forward to reading the next installment.

Excellent story
This is an excellent story and so gripping. What an excellent author Laura Sebastian is. Every bit as good as Cassandra Clare, Holly Black and Sarah J. Maas. This is a book that you can get into right away and can't stop reading to find out what happens next. Great story. Highly recommend. Can't wait to read the second and third book.

Doesn't stand out from the crowd
I enjoy YA fantasy I have shelves of my bookcase weighed down with them. However, this book was too.. same-y! I felt like there was little about this book that was unique and although I enjoyed reading it, it didn't inspire me and I felt as though it was just a 'typical' YA fantasy. I would have liked some more world building and to see more of the wider political games. The magic was also just being introduced in this novel and I hope, as the main character delves more into this in the coming books a clearer picture of the magic system will develop.I liked the main character and the ways she deals with her situation, and the consequences of what her situation makes her do. I also like that this new side of her comes out as the story progresses. This book was well paced and there are a few plot twists which will help to hopefully develop this trilogy.I had higher hopes for this book, but it doesn't stand out from the crowd for me.P.S Love all the covers of this book!

Promising start to a YA with a princess who finds strength in the darkest of places
Ash Princess ticks a lot of the usual YA tropes; a displaced Princess wishes to overthrown her villainous captors and rises up to claim back her throne. Oh, and there's a love triangle of course. But where I've grown bored of this in other YA stories, I found the approach in Ash Princess more refreshing. The story begins in a rather brutal manner where our Princess Theo is forced to kill her own father. This sets up a rather dark tale where Theo, having been imprisoned and paraded by the man who overthrew her kingdom and killed most of her people, starts to dismantle the mental barriers of her forced imprisonment. Theo isn't a fighter, but finds strength and bravery in her determination to finally do what is right for her people and make whatever sacrifices necessary, even if this means lying to the people who believe her to be their friend. The tension builds up quite nicely and ends with the promise of more to come. I like that Theo has a lot of tragic backstory to unpack, but this doesn't make her a weak or nasty character at all. The romance was a bit lukewarm, but the friendship between Theo and her best friend Cress was well-developed. Cress offered an alternative view from the side of the oppressor, and it was nice to see Theo go from supporting and agreeing with Cress to finally standing up for herself and the downtrodden. I'm looking forward to seeing where this will go in the sequel!

Great read
Great book, made me cry in parts....would have given it a 5 but was on the edge of my seat with anxiety in bits of the book not knowing how it would go......I prefer the happy ending stories usually.....that said I will be ordering the next book as soon as I’ve written this! Wow some really difficult reading in this ....should be made into a film!!

Excellent book - 1st of 2
Really enjoyed this book - good characterisation - interesting twists, really good development of a few of the main people building nicely for second book - I was really surprised how good it was given the stiff competition in this genre. You won't be disappointed.

Great start of the series
4,5🌟I actually got these books because I liked the cover but I'm actually glad I got them because this first book was definitely worth it!The story is about a kingdom that has been overtaken and the princess has been kept alive but has been broken mentally and used as an example when one of her people try to act out.The story is really good and the MC's growth was also nicely written. She's still struggling but I feel like we are going to get so much more from her.Seeing her find her will to fight back and all the plotting and planning was really good. The world itself is also really interesting and I'm eager to learn more about it.

Très sympa
Une trilogie très sympa ! On connaît la fin des le début mais c’est une lecture agréable avec une action qui s’enchaîne rapidement et qui est donc facile à lire
