Math concepts
We bought this to help our autistic son who is struggling with several related math concepts (More, Greater than, Less than, Bigger, smaller etc.). The BEST part about this scale is stacking/interlocking number cubes work great as weights! A single cube difference is enough weight to make the heavier bowl OBVIOUS (nearly touching the table!) That really made our day. Also as noted by other customers the scale is much larger than expected. The bowls on this puppy can EASILY hold 50 of the individual cubes with room to spare! (I couldn't find them all to test out 100 lol) This really was a fantastic bargain for us. It's a sturdy enough plastic, although I wouldn't recommend stepping on it... and although a single interlocking cube does make an obvious weight difference in the bowls I wouldn't suggest using this for actual scientific experimentation ;) However if you are looking for a great tool to visually and kinesthetically (hands on) express math concepts, or just a fun and unique toy, I WOULD recommend this one!

... empty and the trays fall off a little too easily when the kids play with it
The balance is hard to get right even when it's empty and the trays fall off a little too easily when the kids play with it, but they still enjoy using it. It's not the best for demonstrating balance with since the initial balancing is never really right. If you put the weights in it equally on both sides, you still have to tweak it with the sliding weights so much that it sort of diminishes the whole concept. Fun, but not accurate enough for teaching balance.

Nice Concept, but Flimsy
I ordered this pan balance for use in my math lessons. It is a great tool with lots of potential so much that my kids have used it for everything imaginable. Upon receipt of this item, things were already falling out of the box, for example, the hexagrams. When put together, the hanging/attachment part of the balance is very flimsy; the rest of it is seemingly sturdy. If you're looking for something to use for a long time, this is probably not the balance for you.

Great fun product!!
I used this for a preschool class that I was reading a story called "The Balancing Act" and needed something to demonstrate weight differences. I was not sure if this would be what I needed but it turned out to be just perfect. It is easy to put together, the colors are bright and cheery and it is larger than I anticipated which was good. I also had bought additional weights for this and they turned out to be the exact ones that come with the set but with more and different weight sizes. Perfect!! After reading the story the kids were just thrilled with the balancing scale and were excited to play with it! Nice product and a great price also! Thank you!!!

Low quality: breaks
Warning: breaks easily. The scale is usable but the plastic ties that attach the buckets break very easily making it ... unusable. Because of the thickness of the ties they are very difficult to glue together as well. I'm trying to fix the problem but I may have to throw the scale away and get something else for my kids.

Great! Perfect for what we need.
Great product. Durable and comes apart nicely to store in the box. I had a hard time choosing a balance with the mixed reviews and different prices. I am glad I chose this one. We homeschool and needed a basic balance and not anything too fancy or with numbers. I do like that this one comes with some weights, although we haven't used them yet. We have only measured in various units, such as how many marbles or math link cubes does this weigh?

takes up space and kids not that interested
Just kind of plasticy, if you know what I mean - it's pretty big and gets boring pretty quick. We found a pocket digital weigh scale was way more fun. I wish there was a metal one of these...

Love this product
Just got this today. I was expecting a cheaply made unstable toy. It turned I was completely mistaken. This suit my needs perfectly. It was larger that I expected and well designed. I am a Preschool teacher and this really helps with my unit on opposites (big vs. small, heavy vs light, more vs. less). Love this product. Well worth it!
