Took about 5 minutes to figure out, stabilize, and set to the level desired. I just had to take the time to sit and examine the base of the mechanism to figure it out. Will adjust to different heights, works like an accordion rack. Be careful not to pinch yourself.I really like this and think, if there is a way to make this more attractive & less industrial, the seller would benefit (financially) from offering these for residential use. It would be useful and interesting in a home setting for displaying your latest magazines, children's artwork, or books. Especially for avid readers who have multiple books they're reading simultaneously this is a great way to have them right there and ready and easily displayed so you can pick up the one you're in the mood for at the time.
