Just received this today and needed to install it right away. I had recently purchased one of the big name brand filters, but it was too powerful and loud. It created so much splash that flies found a new breeding ground with endless water (splashes). When I first installed the Hygger, the noise was loud and my heart dropped a little. However, I remembered that it has a great feature where you could adjust the water flow. Well, I did and voila, nice and quiet. It also had the perfect amount of bubbles. This is a day review, so if it stays this way, I'll be a happy happy camper. Excellent product!!!

Worked for 10 weeks! Only 10 weeks! Came home to water running off my stand, it was leaking out the bottom of this filter! Of course the return date is over!

Pros: • Great value, this is among the cheapest aquarium filters, but it works well • Looks pretty nice, the design definitely helps it look nice in a planted setup • Easy to install and clean • Great flow rate and easily adjustable, this is extremely helpful if you have new plants and want slower moving water while they take hold Cons: • At low flow rates, it does make some noise, not too noticeable, but rather a small whirring sound when you get near aquarium • The biological filtration is not the best, you might want to supplement it with pieces of sponge or something. Overall, this is a good item. It’s worth its price, it’s durable, it definitely helps clear the water, and the flow rate is easily adjustable. If you have a normal fish tank, you will definitely like this filter. However, if you have an ammonia or nitrite sensitive fish species (like a discus), I’d invest in something with a better biological filtration mechanism

I have had my own aquarium business as well as worked as a Manager and Distruct Manager of several pet stores through the years, not to mention being in the hobby for 50yrs. I have seen and sold every HOB filter that was manufactured. This filter beats them all. I will say that I still use the AC bio sponges and bio media for the back of the filters to get more bio surface area. This filter is much more narrow than others, so the sponge just needs to be turned sideways and the ceramic media fits right on top of the sponge as well. The filter has to be filled with water before attaching the impeller mechanism or it won’t prime properly. Otherwise, it will be very noisy. These filters are quiet, and I like that there is a corse sponge to attach to the end of the tube. This is not only great for more bio surface, but especially useful for anyone raising fry, shrimp, snails, or nano fish. Excellent filters, will be purchasing these instead of whisper, AC, Penguin, or any other HOB filter that hasn’t made the cut.

First week the filter overflowed out of the back so I had to place an item in the back to tilt the filter forward. The red light never shuts off no matter what and it sounds like I am next to a small creek with the water trickling. Very loud even after I added more water to the tank. The water is clear so it works just has it’s issues.

After having the filter for almost 6 months unfortunately I found the failure point. The design on the filter with the way the water runs through the filter material from back to front can cause water to overflow at the back of the filter if it gets “dirty”. This was with water volume at the lowest setting (if set any higher it would run over on a brand new filter. I don’t change filters often, I wash them. You wash it out in a bucket and put it back. If you replace it you could possibly crash your tank so I don’t change them like the manufactures would like you to. If the water filled from the bottom and pumped through the media this would not be a problem. Came home to a couple gallons of water on the floor. There are better options for a just a little bit more money. Also the filter does not restart well if a power failure happens, it requires you to fill the chamber with water to get it restarted.

Recibí el filtro el 11 de enero 2025, al día de hoy ya no funciona, resulta que se fue la luz por unos minutos y ahora ya no prende. Deje enfriar el motor varias horas y nada. Estaba muy contento porque funcionaba muy bien y mantenía cristalino mi pecera. Pero por un apagón no puedo creer que dejara de funcionar.
