Heading to Japan for a couple weeks and this is exactly what I needed, but didn't have and fortuiously popped up to test courtesy of the Vine progamme. I have no skin in the game of reviews so evaluate everything in terms of quality, value, and compared to similar products in my life / amazon experience.This is a simple hat - it's going to be chilly and rainy in Japan this time of the year and I walk and travel and bounce about a lot so I need to be prepared. All I need is a hat to keep me warm in cold mornings, and can repel water at the same time - this does that.Tested it out walking about outside in -2 weather and it's indeed warm. I did a cursory water test in the shower and water rolls off. I wouldn't wear this out in the rain exposed as I have a poncho - but it's best to have something waterproof as there's nothing worse than being cold AND wet.Simple hat that does what it says it will do - I'm very pleased!

but I am a bit disappointed with it. The hat comes vacuum packed in plastic, inside a cardboard folder, with two sheets of information and two labels. The packaging seems overkill particularly as the seller makes a point of saying the outer is "made of environmentally friendly recycled yarn fabric". The labels do give the washing instructions.The knitted outer is ok and the fleece inner is ok except they don't seem made for each other. The inner feels like it's been cut and sewn while the outer was stretched so it feels too big for the outer. I understand that it has to be made like this as, in wear, the outer needs to stretch over the head then be snug so the inner, which does not stretch, has to accommodate this, but I can feel how loose the inner is around my head when wearing the hat. There is no elastic design to the inner as claimed by the seller, as far as I can tell, other than the fact some of the fleece is cut on the bias which is automatically stretchy. Also, there is an area about 3" long where the inner and outer meet that is very poorly sewn. I imagine this is where each piece was turned the correct way round after fitting together but this area is badly done. My photo makes it look like it’s just creased, it’s not, it is sewn like this. There is also an area of the knitted fabric at the bottom of the brim that was creased because of the vacuum packing and a stitch is damaged there and likely a weak point now.I have wet the hat and the inside stayed dry which is a good plus point; there is nothing to suggest the windproofing will be an issue either. For once we don't have wind here to test this.It's the construction of the hat, rather than its' performance that is niggling me. If I can get past the looseness of the inner then it is worth 4 stars and the £14.99 compares to other similar hats.
