Fun movies with no guilt.
Dont look for hidden meanings. Enjoy the wackiness and great cast. Bob Newhart is a treasure.

Family Made-for-TV movies, comedy adventures with good sidekicks!
Flynn Carsen, 32 years-old and a professional student has been kicked out of college after getting only 22 degrees. He is dispiritedly going through the newspaper job ads when a strange envelope comes in the mail. It's from the Metropolitan Public Library, "You have been selected to interview for a prestigious position." It turns out its him and a hundred other people. But Flynn's the one who lands the job as Librarian with a 6-month trial period. Many other people enter those doors with the crouching lions in front, but only a special few get to access the REAL library behind hidden doors. The real library has artifacts of myth and legend. As Judson, head of the library tells Flynn, "Some of the items in the library violate the known laws of science. But that is only because our brains are so small we haven't come up with laws to explain them."One of those items is one of three parts of the Spear of Destiny. Whoever joins the three parts has a spear of awesome power and can take over the world. On Flynn's very first night, ninja's break into the library and steal it's spear part. Flynn's mission, as explained by Judson and Charlene, the library administrator, is to use an ancient book and recover all three parts of the spear for the library. Good thing the bumbling Flynn isn't sent into the wild alone. That is "Quest for the Spear", the first of "The Librarian" made-for-TV movies, first airing on TNT. The other two movies follow the same general formula. This is family fare in the vein of the the movies shown on "The Wonderful World of Disney" (1969β1979). Though I don't think any of The Librarian movies are as good as the best of Disney. The first movie originally aired in 2004. "Return to King Solomon's Mines" followed in 2006, with "Curse of the Judas Chalice" in 2008. The movies are comedy-adventures with adequate bad guys and far-fetched fantastical plots. Bob Newhart and Jane Curtin are good as Judson and Charlene. The first movie has Kyle Maclachlan as the man out to rule the world. Sidekicks are pretty good. See Stana Katic in the third movie, just before she became Detective Kate Beckett on "Castle" (2009-2016).English subtitles are available on all three movies. "The Curse of the Judas Chalice" has four Bonus Features:...A... "Deleted Scenes" (7 minutes) Three extended scenes....B... "Visual Effects Deconstruction Sequences" (7 minutes) For 11 scenes in the movie, they show the green screen as filmed and the actual altered scenes....C... "A Look Behind the Monastery Scene" (3 minutes) A short video of a rehearsal....D... "Previews" Trailers for 5 other movies.I didn't dislike the three Librarian movies, they are OK, with the 1st, "Quest for the Spear" better than the rest.Happy Reader

Great series
Loved the initial movies so when the series came out I was excited. Loved all four of the new librarians and their adventures

Love these movies!
After watching The Librarians I found out there were actually movies too. These were definitely worth the amount I paid for them.

Packaging
Something weird about these dvds. 1st, there are only 2 disks. So one of them has multiple movies. 2nd, the disks don't always register to the DVD player, requiring a reinput to get the player to see the disks. 3rd, the plastic holding the dvds are weak, mine broke somewhere between storage and arriving at my house. The movies themselves are the cheesy, great films they were when they were first on TV. The packaging is the problem, thus 3 stars.

Not UK region
I have read and re-read the description and nowhere does it tell you the region. Other sellers have put (Import) in their description. VERY disappointed. The reviews were all UK and none of them said it wasn't a UK region - very disappointed in the reviewers not giving enough info. The films themselves I've seen on TV and loved them, hence buying the videos. Shall have to wait for them to come around again and record them myself. Unhappy buyer.

Disappointed USA region not playable on UK standard DVD players
Having watched "The Librarians" TV series I wanted to see the original films this set seemed idealHOWEVER no mention was made in the blurb that this is a region1 USA DVD so will not play on UK standard machinesSo am disappointedThe process was ok kept informed of order process and was delivered in good condition earlier than the date promisedLow star rating is that if selling on Amazon UK site it should state in the blurb the DVD is not to that regional settingAmendment 20/10/20Loaded VLC Media Player on to laptop so able to enjoy my purchase by playing laptop through TVThis was a free solution compared to other consideration to buy a second DVD player that was region free or multi region

Romance, books and adventure
I'm a big fan of the series (thank you Amazon for putting it on prime) and just had to see the movies. These great films are somewhat Indiana Jones and every moment is a viewing delight that can be shared with all the family. Noah Wyle plays 'The Librarian' who is both attractive, zany and too bright to be abroad. I loved Olympia Dukakis as the mother (believe me I had a mother like that). I was sorry they were over and I have watched them again since. (Once again, thank you for the series on Amazon: if you haven't seen it don't miss it).

A good enjoyable adventure romp.
I really enjoyed these films, they were obviously made with the character Indiana Jones in mind. Still they must have been received well as they spawned a TV series which I also have, slowly working my way through them. It was also nice to see how it all began. I had seen the second film before, nice to now own the trilogy. Even the special effects were pretty good, unlike some films I have seen.

Escapeist entertainment
Great adventures to help you escape and forget about your troubles for a while. Echoes of Indiana Jones but lower budget I think. Enjoyed the first and third films. Not so much the second.
