Edgy, Gritty, Passionate....Outstanding
EJD is quite possibly a literary genius. He has a special way with words that really make you think while reading, read and re-read sentences 3 or 4 times over because they are just that astounding. This story was a powerful page turner. From the very first page he brought you into James Thicke's world; and what a crazy world it was. James Thicke, or part time "Varg Veum" was the most diabolically sane hero that I have read. He was really flying by the seat of his pants, but was secretly calculating in all of his actions. The things that were happening to him just made you say wow, and the things that he did to others were just explosive. Even though he was a mastermind, he was also a very passionate and pleasing man, and please he did over and over to the women in his life. Regina Baptiste, also a complex character. I don't know if I ever fully figured her out, but her actions that led to the total chaos in this book was literally straight from a movie. She just seemed like such a lost soul, that needed James Thicke for validation.Overall this book was just absolutely superb. The level of writing is superior. I have been a fan of EJD since I borrowed Sister, Sister from the public library at the age of 17, and now 13yrs later he just never ceases to amaze me. His writing style has totally evolved from then, and he is just catapulted himself to another level. The break between this book and Tempted by Trouble was too long, so please don't keep us waiting so long for your next masterpiece.P.S. Bring Gideon back soon...I miss him!

Loved it!
Loved it just like I always do!! EJD just has such a gift for drawing you into the world he creates with these crazy/flawed characters. some of the things that happened in this book had me shaking my head in disbelief. I would never have believed the main character James would GO there. I loved those crazy neighbors, loved seeing Panther/Cynthia again, liked that Driver had not lost his edge and clearly still moonlights for Wolfe. And I was excited to see Hazel again as well. Getting to see a different side to her was great. I love when EJD puts his old characters into his new story. I have to say though, I was not happy about the ending. I was hoping that there would of been a little more closure. Instead they just kind of came to a standstill. This left you wondering what the future held for them. And unless there is a sequel to this book, that is going to bug me. lol This book was a excellent read. Loved the little background moments, loved how you were able to see how crossing paths with someone you don't know can change your life. Like the relationship between James and Isabel. I would definitely recommend this book.

Read in one day
I am a fan of Eric Jerome Dickey I've liked all his books with the exception of Thieves' Paradise.... (I know I need to read it because it introduces Scamz) This book was great I purchased it on my Kindle and read it in one evening.... couldn't put it down. I read the reviews after and yes there is a lot of dialog, and yes there are a lot of words not normally used however, the character is a writer so that only makes sense that he is a wordsmith. I too bore easy... hence the unfinished Thieves Paradise, but this book held my attention because there were a lot of twists and turns. He did a great job with the building of the characters and I love the last few chapters.... ironically I could actually see this as a screen play... :)

used to love this author
frankly, when i use to buy an ejd novel i did so, because he was an author who didn't treat me like a non-entity. i, and many others waited for his next novel, because we knew we'd be represented as complete and complex women, not just the help, the druggie, the tragic momma/grandmama, doormat, hoochie, or any other powerless, unaccomplished persons. in other words, ejd wrote about aa women w/o the sterotyping . we knew that he'd witnessed us or could imagine us in multiple roles and facets of life. slowly the audience who'd supported this author from his beginnings was phased out of his work. less and less the main characters resembled us or anyone we knew. ejd's former fan base didn't buy his books just looking for a good story. we bought his books looking for a good story that didn't pretend that we were not intricate or diverse enough to be included. an aside: ms. rhimes the writer for grey's, the practice and now scandel does not write under that pretense and she's "outrageously" successful. she includes folks in her stories from multiple backgrounds. i trust that when she writes, she isn't going to pretend that women like she and i, can't be an intricate part of an intriguing tale.i can't recommend accidental affair to anyone. except for the undeveloped character Driver, it's just an okay tale with characters who don't really do anything or mean anything to anyone. i won't recommend it to those who started out loving ejd stories. it would bore and disappoint them. the story isn't gripping in any way. what would happen if edj could get back to writing stories that intrigued his initial fan based and included other groups? suppose the main male character did more than accept sex from every woman he meets? even the sex scenes are lopsided. we get details on what's done to please the man, but what's done to please the woman is glossed over so quickly, there's hardly a spark. i'd love to find out if ejd hasn't forgotten how to include his old fan base. accidental affair doesn't do it. don't waste s&h.
