Seven Blind Mice (Reading Railroad)

Great book for teaching the importance of different perspectives.
This book is ever-relevant but particularly so currently when people are quick to dismiss those they disagree with.

Reveals errors in logic
Unlike another reviewer, I do not have any concern with Christians reading this story to their kids. Each mouse's perspective was relative because they only saw a part of the elephant. However, although their experiences were real they made a logical error and jumped into false conclusions as to what the object was. The absolute truth is that the object was an elephant and it will still be an elephant no matter what else you believe it to be. In conclusion, what we believe is no substitute for what is actually true. So make sure you put in the leg work to make sure what you believe is really truth.

Multi-faceted tale for all ages
While teaching First grade, I read this book multiple times through the year (not only because the children LOVED it). It introduces color words, days of the week, ordinal numbers on a very basic level. But more importantly it teaches a lesson of individual perception. We would discuss what each how each of the mice discovered about the "strange Something" and why they each thought it was something different. When squabbles occurred on the playground, I would reference the seven mice and ask each child what he saw/thought/felt.I recently bought 9 copies of this book to give to the Adult members of our Faith Sharing Group, because we often find ourselves at different points in our faith journey and often acknowledge that we each "know God" from our own experiences and perspective. Excellent Book!

A deeper understanding of life from a child's perspective
This story was shown to me back in 1994. As a child of 6 years old I loved the art style. I had all but forgotten about this book I owned as a child until a very similar looking painting was shown to me in my religion class. I immanently recognized the art style with the colored people and the elephant as a book I had read as a small child (replaced with blind mice). I just ordered it for my daughter of age 7 to read and she was able to read just about every word. I loved being able to explain the idea of looking at the bigger picture with mice and elephants as an example. I feel like I was really able to teach her a life lesson with this book.

Classic Indian Folktale
This gem of a story is needed in this age of so much fake news. It teaches the importance of seeing the whole picture, and not to make false assumptions based on the parts. It is appropriate for all ages.

I did not check whether this was a large paperback ...
I did not check whether this was a large paperback or a small hardcover. It was the large paperback while I prefer the small hardcover.
