Takes awhile to get the technique down,but it will give you nice shavings , Happy Dashi.

The shaver works fine but without a way to order replacement blades it becomes a VERY EXPENSIVE disposable shaver. I have contacted the seller and they said it’s 100% on Amazon.to supply the blades. That doesn’t seem right and I have not heard anything back from Amazon yet. These blades are not listed separately on Amazon

Received item a week sooner then they indicated. Very very happy with this shaver. After 20 years of using the old fashion Japanese shavers, using this shaver is pleasure. And sometimes, dont tell anyone, I shave my bonito with this late at night. Works perfectly, well built, solid, and does an awesome job making thin graffiti type shavings. Absolutely perfect.

Whenever I make dashi, I turn to this trusty little shaver. I find it easier and safer to use than a traditional katsuobushi shaver, and it gets the job done fast. It comes almost fully assembled; you just need to screw the handle on. The handle operates a spinning metal disc that has three blades attached, and you feed the katsuobushi through a plastic flap that you press down while you turn the handle. An extra blade is included too.I didn't give it five starts because it can be a little awkward to turn the handle while holding down the fish at the same time. Also, it shaves the fish into very small pieces about 1/4" wide. This is perfect for topping a cooked dish, but I'd prefer wider flakes for dashi.

It’s much easier than old type kastsubushi shaver.
