In my garage I have retractable hoses for water, compressed air, and for 110-volt electricity. They work fine but they all have idiosyncrasies. This one for vacuum has none of that. I was looking at it from an engineering/design perspective and thought it would be a challenge to design such a thing. I am glad to report that it works perfectly every time. It ravels back up just right, and comes out properly as well. It is sprung really well, so much so that when it does the final recoil the hose end sort of slams into the opening. (I hate it when they don't recoil all the way like the compressed air unit in my woodworking shop.) Think of this like you would with your inside living room vacuum cleaner. It has plenty of strength at that level, but it is not a ferocious shop vac. I have a small Dirt Devil 6 Gallon Corded Wet Dry Shop Vacuum that is great for getting under the shelving units removing leaves, heavy dirt, mouse forts etc. This is more refined than that. It will more than amply do a perfect job on taking care of your car, and the occasional minor floor or bench cleanup. It even comes with a separate screen/filter i the event you want to use it as a wet vac. I won't be using it for that. I am concerned about the water getting built up in the coiled lines, and then you try to extract dirt, and it gets trapped. I am not speaking from experience though because I am refusing to use it as a wet vacuum. My 6-gallon Dirt Devil will handle that chore ceremoniously and provide easy access when converting from dry to wet. There is ample storage for dirt with this retractable Giraffe Vac. The entire bottom easily comes down by releasing two clamps. It's all hard plastic so you can really get is as clean as you'd like. This package includes a bunch of accessories to suit your needs with different vac heads. Installation: They give you a printed-out template that you can tape to the wall and know exactly where to drill the holes. Oddly enough in the video illustration they install it on a couple of 3/4" x strips to the wall and then attach the vac to that. I spent a lot of time planning it and my concern was that I knew I had to get it right since the whole unit simply drops down into the two wall mount brackets, so it had to be right. Then I realized that the attaching holes are slotted wider to allow for some adjustment, and the bracket fit itself gives you a little leeway yet fits superbly snug when installed. Great design because you can lift it off of the wall at any time for whatever reason or access you may need. I love this thing. No more having to roll a separate vacuum out to your car with an extension cord and tie up floor space. This model also comes with a remote control built into the handle. So, let's say you are out in the driveway, and you want to pause the vacuuming for a little bit. The control is right there in the handle. You can turn it on, or off easily. That saves you from having to run back and forth to control a screaming vac. By the way this unit comes with an exhaust muffler making it even quieter than it already is. Overall, this is a superbly engineered well-built product. They did mention on the instructions to not leave it plugged in. No explanation why but I play on hooking it up to a delayed timer on off switch. Highly recommended. This is definitely going to be one of your favorite toys.

With the weight of the vacuum and the tugging necessary to use the hose recoil, this vacuum will test the strength of how you've mounted it. You will want to mount directly to wall studs, if available. My space for this is on a cinder block wall with approximately 2" of insulation and drywall over it. Because of my specific situation I am building a stand for this so the floor can support most of the stresses and the wall mount will be for stability. I'd rather mount this in a more stable location, but in this location the hose will reach anywhere in my garage, so I'll make it work. The vacuum itself is good - an improvement over the plumbed shop vac I was using that I had to wrestle the hose to hang it up after each use. Not only is the recoil system on the Giraffe vacuum easier than my old setup, it has better suction. I had been sanding some automotive body filler and after vacuuming the concrete floor with my old shop vac setup I went over it with the Giraffe and it did a noticeably better job (see pic). The bluetooth controls at the vacuum handle are a great touch as it would be very inconvenient to have to walk to the base to turn on/off. The cost for this vacuum isn't exactly inexpensive. If you compare similar options, though, it isn't as high priced as some. I had been considering a simple hose reel for my old setup and many of the vacuum hose reels cost a similar amount - and that was without a vacuum!

This Giraffe Tools wall mounted shop vac is great and makes cleaning out your cars so much less of a hassle than having to break out a traditional rolling shop vac or bring my cordless (indoor) vacuum outside to use in the car. I mounted this right near the opening of my 2 car garage and there is plenty of hose length to reach anyway in my 3 car wide driveway for cleaning vehicles. Suction performance of the unit is good, and is comparable to the Bissel GaragePro wall vac I used to use. This won't match a high power rolling shop vac performance wise, but it has plenty of power for getting crumbs and dirk out of car seats and floor mats. Pretty much all common hose wand attachments one would need are included. The only thing missing would be a fine tip tube nose but I rarely used that attachment on my old vac. The bluetooth switch on the vac wand is genius. It is so nice being able to turn the vac on/off while moving around the car instead of just leaving it blaring ON the full time. The autolocking/retracting hose works perfectly; simply pull the hose out to any desired length, hold stable for a few seconds, and the hose locks at that length. To retract, a lightly pull on the hose is all the is needed to unlock it and engage the retraction mode. Now the reason I'm only giving this 4/5 stars is because the mounting design for both the vac and the tools is simply terrible. The vac attaches to 2 wall brackets that need to be placed separately on the wall and the mounting holes DO NOT line up with standard stud spacing in North America! They include massive lag bolts and plastic anchors but I believe these anchor are only for use in a concrete/brick wall. If you are trying to bolt this to a wooden stud wall, you will either need to add your own piece of wood across the wall to mount to or pray you have some oddly spaced studs in your garage. The distance between the outside edge mounting slots of the 2 brackets is 17", not 16". I happened to have 2 studs spaced 17" apart right at the very front of my garage thankfully. I only mounted each bracket with 2 lag bolts each directly to the studs which is more than enough for the ~40lbs of the vac. I don't know why they think anyone would need 8 lag bolts total to hang this thing. And why didn't they design it as a single mounting bracket which can accommodate 16"-24" stud spacing like most wall TV mounting brackets? The tool holder also comes with the crazy big lag screws despite weighing all of 10lbs maybe when fully loaded. I used 2 standard wood screws with fender washers on them to mount this to a stud instead and it worked fine.

I saw this item available as a free promotional so I ordered it. I am one of those people who loves gadgets that make life easier and convenient. Work smart not hard. I love that this vacuum mounts on the wall and then has a retractable hose. I have not mounted it yet as I'm still working on my garage. My uncle passed away and I brought his tool boxes and work bench from his house in AZ and once I get everything organized I will figure out where to place it. I did open the box and take it out and check to make sure it worked. The suction is better than my old little B&D shop vac but I think my larger vac made by the Yellow tool company may be stronger. For cleaning out cars and sucking up saw dust it will be fine. I like the retractable hose and it comes with a nice assortment of accessories. Honestly, if it had not been a promotional there is no way I would have bought this, I had no idea they were so expensive. I would have just stayed with my cannister shop vac. My uncle would have LOVED it.

This thing is a solid hunk of hardware. It is definitely larger than I thought it would be, I wouldn't put this in a small garage or workshop even if I could. It's got some good and some bad things that really hamper it. On the good side, it's very powerful. Pretty sure it beats out my name brand shop vac that I already would have considered to be on the powerful end. The hose is really long, I could take it all the way out of my garage and vacuum out a car outside if needed, and it's skinny and flexible which makes it really easy to work with. So far the retraction feature works well which was my main concern. It even looks cool, almost like a workshop version of a dyson vac or something. The bummer is that so far I've found that awesome hose to be just a little too skinny. I've only used this a couple of times but both times it has choked on debris my shop vac would have sucked up without a second thought. It seems like that comes down to the skinnier hose. On one occasion it actually strained so hard it shut off. Thankfully, so far debris that has gotten stuck like that has been right at the end and not halfway down the 30ft tube. The attachments are fine, it came with a few of them, they look and feel like thin cheap plastic. Speaking of, one of the prongs that is meant to hold the attachments was broken when the unit arrived, which just underscores that it's not particularly tough stuff. It came with some very solid hardware for mounting this up on a variety of surfaces, including drywall/wood/cement walls. That's great, although the odd thing is that they could have put the mounting points at 16in so that it could be mounted to standard US wall studs. I would feel very iffy about mounting this hefty, expensive vacuum that gets tugged on constantly via drywall anchors, but you're only going to be able to get this thing fixed to one stud with the included hardware. Of course, you could always rig up a backing plate. All in all, bit of a disappointment for the price and the amount of space it commands. The basic thing a vacuum marketed toward garages and workshops needs to do is pick up debris, not get clogged too easily, and be able to take a little bit of a beating. It's overall not an outright bad vacuum, it just seems like they put more thought into the bells and whistles than the core vacuum capabilities.

This thing is HEAVY! Much heavier than a common shop vac, suggesting that it has a powerful motor. So it surprised me that the suction seemed weak compared to my 6.5 HP shop vac, particularly considering its relatively small diameter hoses. It certainly is not the claimed 20 kPa. That said, its suction is more than adequate for general garage use and car cleaning. What it lacks in power it more than makes up for in convenience. I found that the hose pulls out and retracts beautifully. I can reach everywhere in the garage and out into my driveway. The attachments store conveniently. I am giving it five stars simply because it is superior to any other solution I am aware of for general garage use and car cleaning, simply because it does not involve large coils of hoses in an already crowded garage. I love it and will use it frequently. Just be aware of its limitations. It is obviously not portable. It cannot be used as a blower.But its convenience overcomes those limitations because it is the vac I will actually grab first and frequently for use in the garage, relegating my large, inconvenient and bulky wet dry vac to the shed — to be dragged out only for heavy duty use.

Heavy duty. Has all the accessories you need. It's super convenient for the garage. Like how the hose is stored. The hose feels sturdy enough not to wear out quick like cheaper vacs. Perfect for any car guy or shop rat. Little noisy but has good suction.

Finally got good weather so I could get this wall mount retractable vacuum installed and mounted. It is a beast for one person, so be sure to get some help. There are a lot of parts and the instructions are pretty basic. You need to be familiar with tools and mounting heavy items on the wall. You will not have success using drywall wall anchors..! Find the studies and be sure one end of a bracket lands on the stud and use the included lag bolts. The vac had on/off switch in the handle end of the hose, very convenient to use, and, it has lots of suction. The retracting feature works very well, makes putting things away easy. If you are a car guy, you need one of these..!
