Unusable to Perfect!
I really love this product! Before adding the Orbi 870, I would get great speeds when I was near the router, but there were spots on our property that wifi was unusable. After adding the Orbi 870, I get full upload and download speeds no matter where I am on the property.

Netgear Nightmare
Where do I begin? I’ve had a Netgear RBR 840 mesh system (router and 2 satellites)for about six years. It was working well.Netgear sent me an email letting me know that That router and my system is no longer supported. I have about 40 IOT devices that don’t need much bandwidth but my number of devices were getting up close to 90. Since I was adding an outdoor building in my backyard with extra devices, I decided to “upgrade” to this Mesh system. I’ve had great success with Netgear for about 20 years. Not this one. .WOW!!! First of all. Setting up was slow and buggy. Then, The range was worse than my current mesh system. One of the satellites kept disconnecting from the main router. Also, I took the time to write down all the Mack addresses for every device so that I could name them and give them the correct symbol. This router kept losing the names and I had to keep checking the Mack addresses and renaming them every day. Then also, I named each satellite, the router kept forgetting the names of the satellites. I didn’t want to return it so I contacted Netgear support. They created a case, had me perform a bunch of tests, reset the satellite that was disconnecting install apps on my phone to verify the signal strength. Nothing worked. The router finally died on the 11th day and would not broadcast. This shouldn’t happen with a brand new router. I packed it up and sent it back. I’m waiting for my refund. I put the old 6 year old mesh system back in place and it’s working just fine. This ORBI is a giant step backwards. I wasted 2 whole days fussing with this thing and all I have is a giant headache.

Netgear Orbi 870 WiFi 7 Mesh System
The Netgear Orbi 870 WiFi 7 mesh system has been a fantastic upgrade for my home network and easily earns a strong recommendation from me. It delivers exactly what I wanted: blazing-fast speeds, rock-solid reliability, and truly whole-home coverage. I have a 4,000-square-foot home, and this system blankets every corner with a strong signal, including my backyard and even as I’m driving up to the house, where devices still latch onto the network without dropping. The mesh is seamless, so I can walk from room to room and outside without noticing any change or interruption in connectivity on my phone, laptop, or smart home devices. Download and upload speeds are consistently excellent and fully take advantage of my high-speed internet connection. Even with multiple people streaming, gaming, and working from home at the same time, there’s no buffering or slowdown. I run about 75 devices on my network—including TVs, cameras, smart home gear, phones, and computers—and everything stays connected with strong, stable signals. The Orbi 870 is designed for highly connected households and supports a large number of concurrent devices, which shows in day-to-day use. Setup was super easy using the Orbi app; it walks you through everything step by step, from plugging in the units to naming your network, and has the system up and running in minutes. The app also makes it simple to manage the network afterward, like checking connected devices or updating firmware when needed. This WiFi 7 mesh system delivers on its promises of speed, coverage, and reliability, and it feels like a true “set it and forget it” solution. For anyone with a larger home or lots of connected devices who wants top-tier performance and effortless management, I highly recommend the Netgear Orbi 870 WiFi 7 mesh system.

New to Netgear Orbi
I have had my Orbi 870 up for about two weeks now. Everything seems to be working quite well. Still have not gotten my Foscam cameras converted. I have to take them down and connect them to Ethernet to add them to the new network. All ring cameras came up easily. My remote Ring camera, about 150 feet away that had an RSSI of 73 with my old Linksys system, now has an RSSI of 48. I am very happy with this. This was my main reason to get a new network. I had one glitch the other day. I checked my Orbi app to find no devices connected to the main Orbi or either of the new satellites. Even though they weren't showing up, everything was still working. I had to reset the whole system. Once reset, everything came back online properly. I checked online and found this to be a fairly common issue. I am happy with the system and would recommend it to a friend.

Expensive but Worth It
Very easy to set up and works perfectly, with no bandwidth loss between modem and router and the satellites. I recently AND FINALLY got fiber internet run to my large house out in the sticks. Previously, I'd been using satellite with wifi range extenders. However, the fiber service came with a single router that only provided 300Mbs when I'd paid for 1Gbs, and the signal was nonexistent outside the room it was in. So I got this mesh system instead. NOTE: this is only really possible if your fiber has separate boxes for modem and router. You just replace the supplied router with this system. If you've got a single unit router/modem from your provider, then you might be out of luck :( Anyway, in my case, I get 1Gbs speed everywhere in my house now, and for about 50 yards out in the yard as well (so use a network password if you don't live way out in the sticks). IOW, no speed loss from going through the mesh network. Even better, the mesh thing is like a cellphone system, in that your device just switches to the nearest router or satellite as you move around the house and it's all the same wifi network. Unlike myprevious system of range extenders, each of which was a separate network.

Not worth the money
range is terrible not even as good as old google mesh router. speed is good though, cost is stupid for the performance and routers have no ability to be used and a satellite and setup is finnicky at best.

Horrible Customer Service/Tech Support!
I give this product THREE stars for its okay, but somewhat unrealiabe performance, and for Orbi's horrible customer service. I bought the Orbi 870 series with router and two satellites in September 2025. Initial setup to replace a Verizon FiOS router took several hours after a few calls to technical support, but eventually got the system running. Had issues with the Orbi app on my iPhone which took the tech support team several weeks to resolve. Recently (March 2026) I purchased the Netgear Armor Plus for one year to extend my hardware warranty. After installing the Armor Plus app on my Windows 11 desktop PC I could no longer access any of my financial accounts on the Internet; the VPN kept closing the sites unexpectedly and my Google Chrome browser would show an error message saying "This site can't be reached" without explaining why. So, I uninstalled the Armor app from my PC and, voila, everything worked fine again. The app is also on my iPhone but I don't seem to have issues there., The app is supposedly protecting my WiFi mesh network (37 devices), but it tells me Netgear Armor is installed on ZERO devices. Seems to be contradictory information being reported by the app which was one of the issues I reported to Netgear after we got the system up and running in Septeber. I've tried several times to contact Netgear Tech Support about this issue but they either don't answer or put me on hold for a lengthy amount of time without offering a callback option. I even sent them an email and the only thing they did was return an automated (no-reply) email saying call them back within 24 hours or they will close the ticket. Kind of hard to do that if your issue occurs on Friday and you're not at your PC again until Monday. Well, it's now Tuesday and I still can't get through to tech support. Customer Service at Netgear is horrible! I have a Netgear Account. Why can't they call me back?! I would not recommend you buy their products until the company fixes the technical and customer service issues. The Orbi 870 Series is overprices and somewhat unreliable.

Easy setup and great performance.
This is my second set in the orbi series and they all have just worked. I upgraded to improve my WiFi bandwidth to take advantage of a new fiber internet connection. I am quite pleased with the ease of setup and performance. I have one satellite located in a detached shop not all that close to the main house and the connection out there has been great.

Future proof your home network!
I was very fortunate to get this at a heavily discounted price. Setup was super easy, just added the new setup via the Orbi app and renamed the SSIDS to my existing network names. Don't expect a huge difference in internet speed or even any difference, it will largely depend on your modem/ISP. In my case the speed was virtually the same as my previous setup, however I did notice much less latency on connecting to IOT devices such as IP security camera's. I have ordered a new WIFI 7 supported modem from my ISP which should improve my network speeds as my current modem is super old. However, be aware, you won't be able to get the full potential of this system without compatible wifi7 devices, but it's backward compatible and will still work fine with older devices. Basically, I bit the bullet on this due to the discounted price and took the opportunity to future proof my network for the next 5+ years. Haven't had any issues at all, everything connected and runs consistently well. One other thing, not sure why but one of the satellites won't show as connected in the Orbi app, always shows just the one instead of two, but from what I've read it's apparently a bug and it is indeed connected. Kinda annoying though.. 🫤

Will never buy anything by Netgear again
Bought this in May and straight away had slow speed issues. Netgear support said I needed another satellite so I bought another one…. speeds still slow. After a couple of months of backward and forward phone calls, sending log files and finding even more issues, they finally agreed it was faulty. Then I was told that there were no replacements in stock (even though they were still selling them). After another 2 months of waiting, I contacted Amazon and they refunded it. Netgear treat their customers like 💩. They have previously been fined by the ACCC for dodgy behaviour but apparently haven’t learnt their lesson.

Excellent Product
Excellent product. Easy to set up. Great coverage. Meshed system works very well and has extended my coverage throughout the entire house, including front and back yard.

Happy so far!
Great performance with strong Wi-Fi 6E speeds and Wi-Fi 7 backhaul — a few setup quirks Overall, the system’s performance has been excellent. Most of my devices are Wi-Fi 6E only, but the system still benefits from a Wi-Fi 7 backhaul with MLO, which clearly helps maintain strong speeds between nodes. Using a Wi-Fi 6E device, I consistently see 100% of my NBN plan speed (1000/400 fibre). Even 5–6 metres away through a floor or wall, I regularly get around 90% of my maximum speed, which is impressive and exactly what I was hoping for from a premium mesh setup. Stability has also been very solid day-to-day. Now that I understand some of the system’s quirks, they’re easy enough to live with and haven’t affected overall reliability. Negatives: - Setup had a few quirks and wasn’t completely seamless - System reboots take a while, as each node syncs configuration from the main router after restarting - Transparency around some settings is limited — some controls are hidden. That said, this may actually help keep things simpler for most users and prevent over-tweaking Overall, performance and coverage have been excellent for a gigabit fibre connection, especially when using Wi-Fi 6E client devices. 👍
