Civil War (DK Eyewitness Books)

I picked this book with the other books in this series out as a birthday gift for my grandson. He has become very interested in history. He also has expressed interest in the military and American Wars. My wife is a retired school teacher and stated that she was familiar with this book series. She stated that it was an excellent book for a youth learning experience. But the next important thing is he was beyond excited when realized what it was.

The Eye Witnessed Civil War book was all I thought it would be. My Grandson was really excited to get it for Christmas. He loves history, especially the civil war era. Lots of detail explaining things. He's 8 and finishing up 3rd grade. I accidentally ordered 2 books alike so instead of returning it, I donated it to the local library. I have purchased some of DK Eyewitness Series in the past and knew it was going to be okay.

Bought this book for my 10 year old son and what a great buy. Great pics with lots of facts that even I had never read before..for example, there was a section on women on both sides that disguised themselves as men to fight in the civil war. A giant poster is also enclosed with the book featuring all the different wars fought. This book provides a great way to educate kids about history in a visual matter.

I bought this book for my grandson at Christmas. He was interested in wars (WW!, WW11, and the Civil War). When I gave him all three Eyewitness books, the pictures and explanations were so interesting, that I found myself reading along with him.Afterward, he came to me, and discussed his knowledge of the wars....and it was incredible on what he had learned just from these books.Well worth the purchase...and all the Eyewitness books are fabulous!

My younger son (5 years) loves this series, especially after visiting Civil War sites this summer. The treatment of the war is evenhanded, and presents a thorough picture of not just the sides of the war and the various battles, but provides additional discussion of various other aspects of the war including slavery, politics and weaponry. It definitely makes it easier to explain the War to my son, and keeps me informed as well.

Wow. A beautiful book. I did not remember reading that the book came with a CD.The illustrations are great. I hope that my 9 yo grandson loves this Christmas gift.The theme this year is the Civil War. I added the Confederate Officer's Cap and Civil wartoy soldiers. Can't wait to see if he likes it as much as I do.

I ordered this book for my 6 year old, who had become fascinated with learning more about the Civil War after a trip to Shiloh. She has been carrying it around for a few weeks now and though each page has a lot of information on it, she reads it all and remembers it too.This series is wonderful and I can recommend any book they publish.

I purchased this book for my 12 year nephew who is into the presidents of the united states past and present and he knows all of them in order and can tell you some interested facts about each one of them. I am so happy to feed his love for reading and knowledge.

I have yet to be disappointed in an Eyewitness book and this one is no exception. Full of pictures and short readable stories and explanations, this was the perfect way for me to teach this topic to my home-schooled son, who hates textbooks of any kind. We both had fun reading through it, and the contents were easy enough to grasp, yet without overdoing the info, that we feel we have a good-enough handle on this topic, and look forward to working our way through many more.
