Broken and inoperable upon delivery
Upon delivery late May 2020. Scroll down for update on this review. After reading all the glowing reviews about this Honda generator, I eagerly anticipated starting it up and experiencing the quiet, reliable power it's known for. As of now, after going through all of the initial set-up that includes adding motor oil and pulling off the front panel (four 10mm nuts) to connect the battery, and of course adding fuel, it is sitting inoperable in my garage. It cranks but will not start. After opening the left side maintenance cover (flat-head screwdriver required) and removing the spark plug inspection cover (flat-head or phillips screwdriver required), I discovered the likely source of my no-start problem. The plastic cap of the coil wire that snaps on to the spark plug was broken and dangling loose inside the compartment. I can think of no way that this plastic part was broken during shipment, since the generator itself and the shipping box arrived in undamaged condition. So somehow this part was broken during assembly. Maybe Honda doesn't even test-run these generators before they box them up?So now I get to schlepp my brand-new Honda generator to an authorized service facility. Hopefully they will repair the problem and I'll be a happy Honda generator owner like so many of the reviews here. If so, I will return and adjust my review accordingly. But I'm unlikely to ever give a five-start rating because.... a five-star product should work right out of the box.Updated review, early June 2020So I managed to get my 130 lb generator in the back of my SUV (side note: plan on ordering a wheel kit for this generator unless you will leave it in one place all the time). Drove to an authorized Honda service center. They had a replacement part in stock for the spark plug cap, came out and did the installation in the back of my SUV. Generator started immediately. Five minutes later I was on my way home with my now-working generator. I haven't actually had to use it yet -- purchased it for backup power when our local utility company decides to do one of its "safety outages". But I can say that it starts quickly, runs smoothly and quietly, and I'm much happier with it than I was a few days ago. I'll return and update this review again after I have some experience actually using it.

SOLVED! -- Doesn't work right out of the box
==============UPDATE==================OK, Upon further investigation I discovered that this unit shipped with a broken spark plug cap like the ones that others have commented about.A little epoxy glue to join the broken parts back together again solved the problem. NOW it starts right away.It also solved the mystery of the "fuse" and spring I found running around loose on the bottom pan of the unit. It turns out they were from inside the spark plug cap boot, acting as spring tension to keep the connection between the boot and the spark plug.i want to point out that there is no logical reason for me and others receiving brand new units with broken spark plug caps. There was no damage to the box or any of the contents. The spark plug is behind a thick plastic cover; which, in turn, is behind a metal side cover of the unit.Honda says they test each unit. Somehow I doubt it. It's like shipping a car with one square wheel. It just doesn't make sense.Anyway, not the seller's fault, but each buyer of this unit should open it up first thing to make sure the gremlins haven't broken off this critical piece.==================================================================i followed all of the directions for setting up this generator for its first run. The starter cranks, but the engine does not catch. When I took a close look behind the front cover I discovered what looks like a small fuse and a spring just lying loose at the bottom of the generator.Does anybody know where these came from? I'm thinking it might have something to do with why the genny won't start.I've contacted our local Honda engine repair shop, but it would involve me loading this monster into our car and driving it to the shop. I simply am not able to physically do that. So, if I can find out where these parts fell off of I can maybe fix it myself.
