Helps maintain machine performance
Iโm very happy with the functionality of this icemaker de scaler. After running a cleaning cycle, I noticed a clear improvement in the ice production and overall machine performance. The solution did a great job breaking down minerals, build up without leaving a strong odor or residue. The process was straightforward just makes us directed and run the clean cycle. It dissolved scale, effectively, which is important because men are deposits from calcium and magnesium can build up overtime and reduce ice quality and efficiency. After descaling, the ice tasted fresh in the machine ran smoother. Itโs a simple maintenance step that really helps extend extends the life of a icemaker.

An essential product for GE Opal ice makers, to keep them running smoothly, cleanly, and without issue. I highly recommend at least once a month cleaning or as recommended.

Instructions for How to Use
This is a new product for me, and I'm pleased... with everything except the instructions for use that come on the back of the package. They are quite limited. So, I asked AI for instructions, and got clear, step-by-step help. Here's what I learned: "Descaling your GE Profile Opal Ice Maker with the official Opal Citric Acid Descaling Powder is a straightforward process. Here is exactly how to use the powder: 1. Preparation - Turn off and unplug your Opal ice maker. Let it sit for about an hour before cleaning. - Empty the machine: Remove the ice bin and completely drain any remaining water using the drain tubes on the back of the unit. - Remove the filter: If you use an Opal water filter, remove it from the reservoir and temporarily replace it with the standard screened intake cap. (The cleaning solution will not circulate properly through the filter). 2. Mix & Add the Solution - Mix ratio: Open 1 packet of the Opal Citric Acid Powder Descaler. - Fill the internal water reservoir up to the Max Fill line with hot/warm water (ideal temperature is around 100ยฐFโ120ยฐF). - Pour the packet of powder directly into the reservoir water and stir gently until fully dissolved. 3. Run the Cleaning Cycles - Reattach your drain hoses to the back of the machine. - Plug the Opal back in. - Start the cycle: * For models with a round button on the front: Slide the switch on the back to "Clean". The light ring will pulse yellow. Press the front button to start. * For models without a round button / Dispenser models: Press and hold the "Clean" button on the front display for 3 seconds. - The cycle will circulate the solution for about 3 minutes. Run this cleaning cycle up to 3 times to ensure the citric acid passes thoroughly through the system. - Let it soak: Once the cycles are done, let the solution sit inside the unit to soak for 18 hours to fully dissolve stubborn mineral buildup. 4. Drain & Rinse Thoroughly - After the 18-hour soak, disconnect the drain tubes at the back and drain the citric acid solution completely into a sink or bucket. - Reinsert the drain plugs and fill the reservoir back up to the Max Fill line with fresh, clean water. - Run another Clean cycle to rinse out the remaining acid. - Drain the rinse water, and repeat this rinsing process 2 more times (for a total of 3 fresh water rinses) to ensure no sour taste is left behind. - Once finished, re-hook your drain tubes, replace your water filter, fill it up with fresh water, and press Power to start making fresh nugget ice!" FOR THOSE WHO ARE CURIOUS, HERE ARE THE INSTRUCTIONS ON THE PRODUCT BOX: "Mix with water only. Pour directly into internal water reservoir. Never pour descaling powder in the side tank. Wear protective equipment to avoid skin contact in case of irritation. Standard descaling (2% concentration): Use 1 bag (1 oz) of descaler per 51 fl oz (0.4 gallon) of water. Reinforced descaling (4% concentration): Use 2 bags (2 oz) of descaler per 51 fl oz (0.4 gallon) of water. Follow recommended cleaning procedure of your machine. Descale on a regular basis for best performance according to the descaling frequency recommended by your machine."

Seems to work? At least it is safe. Not sure how effective these are, even at double the dose.
These Opal ice machines either die in a year, or don't. Regardless of how much you clean it. These do not remove all of the calcium deposits as I still have to take the machine apart to clean the tubes every 6 months. I don't know if these really clean reliably or not, but they are safe and will use it.
