Germinated!
I just followed the simple instructions and these things germinated fine! About 3 days after removing from the fridge first seedling emerged. 8 days after removal there are three seedlings. Great product and instructions.

All sprouted
A bit pricy for what you get but it’s a whole package/novelty packaging etc all seeds sprouted and healthy.

Didn't sprout
Turned out a dud for me. Did everything per instructions. Cold stored in reefer, set up in spring and watched for months - Nada. The little terrarium worked perfectly, kept moist for a long time but not overmoist. Seeds didn't cooperate. I would have thought that Idaho would be a pretty great climate for sprouting pine seedlings!

Started growing in the kit, OK
Although it grew well in the kit when it was time to transplant, it died. I followed the instructions, but maybe I did it wrong.

Great product for price.
Just took out of refrigerator to start the growth. Been looking for a Bristle cone evergreen and hope I have found one that will grow. Will review later to its durability.

Low germination rate, plant died within 1 week of sprouting. BUT a really cool idea.
Great idea for a product, and in theory would be a killer gift for nature lovers. Instructions are clear and nicely illustrated. However, there are inconsistencies with the soil (quality and quantity) across multiple samples of the same item and of the 5 "grow your own" kits I've bought from Jonsteen over the past couple years, literally only one planted seed has survived. Bear in mind that each pack contains 2 or more seeds, so that's just not acceptable. What I'd change: tighten up quality control and deviation of soil composition. Definitely make sure the soil included in the kit is ideal for the specific seed type to germinate and survive the pre-transplant stage. And scratch the ridiculous return policy. This is 2021. Customers don't pay any respectable Amazon vendor to have subpar items replaced, and the return window is completely insufficient for a product that has to be cold stratified for 2 weeks. You can bet that a competitor will see this glaring gap in customer service and start grabbing your market share. For context, I'm a seasoned gardener and have been planting trees and other plants for 20 years.5/5 for the idea2/5 for the execution

2-Year-Old Bristlecone Pine Growing in Southern Arizona at 8,000 Feet
In 2020, I was evacuated from my Summerhaven, Arizona due to the Bighorn Fire, which burned more than 140,000 acres. Unable to return to my home for more than a month, I took a roadtrip to Utah, where I first learned about Bristlecone pines near Brian Head, Utah. I ordered the Ancient Bristlecone Pine | Tree Seed Grow Kit from The Jonsteen Company via Amazon Prime on July 30, 2020. I germinated the seed following the instructions. One seed germinated and I transplanted it to dolimitic soil taken from near my cabin (which survived the Bighorn Fire). The photos included here are of that seedling at nearly two years of age. From everything I've read, the Bristlecone pine should do well in this habitat (8,000 foot elevation, semi-arid mixed coniferous forest). I am still growing it in a pot, but may transfer it to natural soil at 3 years or perhaps 4 years. I'll report back if it survives. Enjoy!
