BLACK+DECKER 20V MAX Electric Chainsaw, 10 inch Cordless Chainsaw with Battery and Charger Included, Automatic Oiler, Low Kickback Power Chain Saws (LCS1020)

Last week, I hired a tree surgeon to cut down an elm tree (30 foot tall, 16 inch trunk at base) close to the house in the front yard, leaving the material as it fell in order to save a couple of hundred bucks on the job by doing the haul off myself. Since my gas powered Stihl had been stolen earlier this year, and thus being chain saw poor at the moment, I decided to order the Black & Decker LCS1020 20V Max Lithium Ion Chainsaw, 10-Inch for this job. I had previously purchased a B&D 20V drill, and had been impressed with its performance using a 1.2 Amp Hour battery, and since I thought it would be nice to have a smaller chain saw on han for odd jobs, pruning, and such, I figured I couldn't go wrong with the purchase of the LCS1020.I am glad to say that I didn't go wrong with this purchase..........I wish I would have bought this a long time ago!!! It took me about 5 1/2 hours to do the job outlined above, making what I would estimate to be around 100 cuts tota , and a total cutting time of about 30-40 minutes on q single full charge of the saw's 2.0 Amp Hour battery (supplied with the saw). I almost finished the job in totalnwith just the one battery charge, but alas, it abandoned me at the end. But then, I simply hooked up the other battery I had on hand (1.2 Amp Hour), and used it for another 5 minutes of cutting time to finish off the job, with the smaller battery still have a lot of charge left to it. Now, the largest size cuts that I was made were small, the biggest being 4-5 inches in diameter, I could tell that the LCS1020 would have been up to the task, but likely without as much battery life time.The light weight of the LCS1020 at 7.2 pounds definitely made the job easier; my other saw at twice the weight would have wore me out! Other things I liked about the LCS1020 were 1) the tool-less chain tensioning mechanism was very easy and held very tight, and 2) the optional notes to use plain vegetable cooking oil for the bar lube that was stated in the instructions. They recommend the option of using vegetable oil as the lubricant especially for use with pruning off limbs from live trees. I went with the vegetable oil largely because I couldn't find my regular chain lube in the garage, and it worked quite well. It does make sense that it would likely be a little more environmentally friendly, I suspect. The manual priming for the lubricant worked well, but I must confess that I wish that it had automatic oiling.Eventually I will wind up replacing my larger Stihl that was stolen, but I am definitely going to hold off on that until I had a definite need for it. I think the LCS1020 will satisfy all the planned needs I have for a chain saw in the coming future. My days of cutting down trees for firewood and blazing 4 wheeler trails through the woods have long since passed to my youth!Updated on 3/22/15: Still quite pleased with the LCS1020. Last weekend I had the chance to use the LCS1020 for the second time, taking care of tree branches that fell from a recent ice storm. Prior to starting the job, decided to do a quick sharpening touch up on the saw, and realized I did not have the correct specified size file for sharpening, which is 4.5 mm. I did have a 5 mm file, used it, and it seemed to do the trick nicely and I got the job done with no problems, but I will get the correct size file soon. I have used Oregon's file guide previously, and it works well to maintain correct angles. I'm 74 years old, male, retired Engineer - got a bad back.I bought the 10" chain saw. I'd buy this chain saw again. It's 'no toy'.I bought this chain say exactly a month ago. I have found it to be reliable, maneuverable -as a chain saw can be. It's lightweight enough to not be tiring. Follow direction to let the chain saw cut by its own weight and it makes a pile of wood shavings almost as fast as its gasoline-powered, big brothers.= = = = = = = = =I like it. I just finished dropping a dead, 30'-35 foot tree in my front yard. I just measured the base of the dead tree at 34" across just now. The old tree had 4 major branches ranging from 14" to 16" in diameter.Now it took a month to cut all the branches off and then drop the stump. But I followed the directions Black and Decker provide on how to properly drop a big tree - followed them, and dropped all four 25'-30' branches within inches of fencing ... in a tight, front yard. "Nice directions ... but I used a rope to guide the drop.What do I wish I would change: Well, I should have bought the 10" electric chain saws bigger brother ... the 12" blade saw. But I'm retired, on a tight SS budget.The battery that operates this chain saw is great. The battery is not underpowered. It "Cuts". The chainsaw's chain has stayed 'shart' all this cutting.But, I wish that I got more than 45 minutes worth of cutting out of a battery charge. (Should have bought a spare battery.) It takes quite a while waiting to recharge a battery, to cut again on a big project such as this.Surprise: The battery takes right at 5-1/2 - 6 hours to recharge. The battery also appears to have an internal heat sensor within it. It won't immediately recharge ... gives a red, blinking warning light upon the transformer. I put it in the refrigerator for 15 minutes - to cool it down. Then it's fine. Blinking, green light on the transformer as it charges.For one battery charge - I can cut about a child's wagon worth of wood chunks ... out of the trunk; or two wagon-loads of wood if it is small-medium branches. I went and bought a 2-1/2" mason chisel...then cut 3" deep horizontal/sectional cuts into the trunk ... to start getting the trunk down to ground level. (Another good investment ... that mason chisel and a hammer.)Overall though, I'm really happy with my chain saw. It's done what I asked it to do ... even taking 9" deep cuts into that tree, without binding the chain.

Seems to cut fine. Slower than a gas saw of course and it bounces around a little on smaller limbs due to low chain speed, but it is super light and does pretty good. Oiler is kinda slow, lots of pumping, not much lube. Only major issue I dislike is the safety interlock is designed so that it pinches my thumb when using it if I'm not careful. I haven't used it enough to judge battery life but I have lots of batteries, that won't be a problem.

I purchased this chainsaw from Amazon as a saw to quickly cut branches and logs around the yard whenever I needed a small job done. Dragging out a gas saw, filling it up with gas and oil, then attempting to start it, especially on a cold day can be a pain. I hoped when I bought this saw, it would do the job and I was not disappointed.Before you do anything, plug the battery in the charger and the charger into an outlet. The battery should be charged for at least 8 hours before using.The saw comes with the chain and bar off the unit, but is easily attached with no tools. Following the instructions, you simply unscrew the nut and pull off the cover to expose the chain drive sprocket. Then you carefully place the chain in the sprocket and the bar over the lock down bolt. Once in place, replace the cover. and screw down the nut. Do not tighten yet. Using the large orange disk behind the nut, carefully tighten the chain by turning it clockwise. Do not over tighten it, as you want about 1/8 th of an inch of a gap when you pull the chain down. Once this is done, tighten the nut. Remember to check the chain tension every time you use the saw. Failing to check the tension will ruin the chain and the bar.One final item is the oil. The saw does not come with any so you need to get some 30 weight motor oil. This stuff is cheap and a little goes a very long way when it comes to chain saws. This is a manual oiler, so you will need to press the bulb on the cap 3 times before each cut. For me, it works out to 3 presses every 4 inches of cut.When actually using the saw, remember to not force the saw, but to let the chain teeth to the work. Gently rocking the saw to the front and to the rear does help, but do not force it into the wood. I had very good results cutting up some large branches in my back yard. As you can see in the photos of the clean cuts, it did very well indeed. The battery began to lose power on the last log and I put it back in the charger for later.I had noticed several reviews stating that the oiler did not work. It must be remembered this is a manual oiler and it needs to be pressed at almost every cut. In addition, because it is an air pressure oiler; the little hole in the top needs to be sealed to ensure the oil is forced onto the chain. If you are wearing leather gloves, it will not seal the hole and it will not force oil into the chain when it is pressed. Unfortunately, you will need to remove your glove a lot when you use this saw. The blue nitrel gloves I use in the garage seem to work pretty good, but of course do not provide the protection of leather ones.Of the low cost battery powered saws I have seen and used, this is the best one for the money.

This little chainsaw has worked very well for for 7 years now. I've used it mostly for small (15' to 20' ) trees or limbs that are blown down in storms. It has handled everything I've asked of it.The trick is you need to be patient and let it do its job. It is not a high power gas driven monster and if you treat it like it is, you will be disappointed.This is easy to handle and has a trigger guard, similar to most power cutting tool, to protect against unwanted starts.The batteries match with all my Black & Decker tools so I'm never running out of power and having to wait for recharging time.This tool has truly paid for itself and I consider it a "good buy".

We have 24 acres. 50% of it is wooded with mostly pines & cedars with some oak. I wanted to be able to do some work myself while my husband was at work. There were so many projects I had in my mind, but when he is home, other projects take priority. This has been excellent for my personal use. I have been using it to cut already downed cedars for fence posts & am building a fabulous post & rail fence. The longevity of the battery is great. It lasts about as long as my energy does from cutting & hauling. Light, easy to assemble. Does the job. Makes working a joy. Simple. Seems safe, because when you stop, it stops. Only had it kick back a couple of times. I would recommend this. Like that the battery is interchangeable with other products. Plan on buying the trimmer next.UPDATE: My husband borrowed this after a big storm to check the fence lines. It is great because we can trim trees off fences, just where needed and not have the saw running the whole time. I just bought the trimmer, which is also worth it. So, now I have 3 batteries for my projects. Looking at more products now. This line is great!

Black & Decker is a name in tools that I know and trust for making quality products. I was happy to see that they make this battery powered chainsaw. We have a gas chainsaw but like many others have noted, starting it takes more energy than using it. I really needed something easier and faster to use. We're mainly cutting Aspen and some pine for firewood.As soon as this came in the mail, I pulled out the battery and the charger and got it to cooking. It took about 5 hours as the booklet said to reach a full charge. During that time, I read through the instruction booklet and put the saw together. That didn't take more than a few minutes and requires absolutely no tools. I was impressed with the sturdiness of the saw. The saw is made of metal and plastic and is very light and well-balanced.I'm not a big, strong lumberjack, I'm a great-grandmother, so I'm not all that keen on chainsaws but doing a job without the right tool is just wrong. This is the right tool for me. I was able to cut a nice pile of logs up in the 20 minutes of operating time for the battery charge. I have a picture of my pile below.I like the weight and how easy it is to use the saw. I don't like the manual lube of the chain. It's annoying to have to push the little plunger after every cut or so to keep the chain lubed. I like that I feel safe while using the saw. It seems easy to keep it in control as it's not running anywhere near as fast as our gas chainsaw. I also like how easy it is to adjust the tension on the chain if I see it getting a little loose. I don't have to stop what I'm doing and pay attention to taking care of that.Bottom Line: The price was right and I'm happy with my purchase. If I could do it over knowing what I know now, I would probably opt for the 40V version with the automatic chain lube and a little more power but this will work for me for now.Day Two: I wanted to add a few thoughts after spending a second day with this little chainsaw "wannabe". Today we tacked a 50+ foot Aspen with approximately a 7 inch diameter. We won't be trying that again. The B&D cuts too slow for a job like this and in the end, the tree fell all wrong even with the right cuts. We again only had 20 minutes of cutting power and that was enough to down the tree and cut it into small enough sections to get on the sled to haul out of the woods. I used my gas powered chainsaw to finish the job of cutting it into firewood.This is a great little tool for having around the yard for cutting up limbs and fallen trees. It's sturdy, easy to use and well-designed (except for the manual lube on the chain). It's a step up from a hedge cutter and a step down from a gas chainsaw power-wise. Consider your needs and how you will be using this before you buy it.

It does ok for me because I only need it for emergency use. If you need a serious chainsaw I would look elsewhere. The auto-oiler doesn't really work as most bad reviews say but I got it to work "with a little song and dance" (meaning I've learned a method to get a little out but really have to pay attention to it). It doesn't cut through anything very fast (about a min to cut a 4-6 inch long!) and the bar/chain get but very fast if you don't pay attention to the angle. Pros: battery operated so it starts/stops quickly; no maintenance (except sharpening the blade if you use it continuously at all); works with all the 20v B&D I have. Cons: Doesn't cut very well/fast; auto-oil is really manual oil (lol); battery doesn't last very long so you better have multiple batteries

El único inconveniente que le veo, es que solo incluye una batería, no tiene más baterías de repuesto se tienen que comprar por separado, además, el amperaje de la batería es muy bajo (2 amperes).
