I've used this product on several tabletops, chairs, desks, and cabinets. It is an excellent product, but it does require the user to be familiar with the properties of polyurethane. The best descriptor of this would be, "Hurry up and wait." There is a limited period of good workable time where the product self-levels and any traped air bubbles can be worked out. Past that critical point, brush strokes can be seen. There are methods that can reduce that problem, with additives. Specifically for kitchen cabinets, i would recommend this, but make sure you have at least 72 hours after it dries to the touch at room temperature to cure before even thinking about using them. It's also an oil based product so keep in mind there will be fumes and an odor if applied indoors until the poly dries. Cover the counters with drop cloth grade plastic sheeting. Remove the doors, hinges, and all hardware. Coat the doors laying flat. Use a high quality brush. No James Bond... Stir the can, do not shake. It traps air bubbles you will see when brush it on. (Can use a hair drier to get rid of bubbles... YouTube on how) Allow a minimum of 72 hrs after it completely dries before use. Hope this helps you! And good luck with your project!

Q: Does this product dry to a yellow/amber hue or is it clear/natural?

I used the Zar poly over stained wood.....dark cherry.....so it is difficult to know if it would dry to yellow/amber if applied to natural/unstained wood. Now, having said that, I believe it would dry to clear/natural. It dries to a nice rich, flat finish.....with just the right level of sheen. My house contains stained wood throughout and this product is definitely my choice as a finish. Good luck.

Q: Is it a low VOC odor product?

Sorry, I don't specifically remember if this is a low-odor product. Generally we do use zero-VOC paints, but this was a difficult product to find - our painter recommended an oil-based stain, but we wanted no gloss finish on a window surround to match other wood work in our house. The work was done while we were at work, and there was not a lot of area covered - just one window surround - but I seem to remember that there was an odor when we returned home. It dissipated in a few days.
