Despite being advertised for Windows, has anyone even tried on Linux Zorin system?

This is _not_ supported on Linux as of 6/29/2023. I have just spent several hours poking at the kernel. There are some fixes as of kernel version 6.4 that will allow the device to initialize (It will show up in btmgmt etc), but those fixes are not sufficient for full functionality. It advertises support for at least six commands that it does not actually support. Four of those prevent initialization (and are what is fixed in 6.4). The other two are preventing me from connecting via LE and BR/EDR. Those two would be easy fixes, but there is no guarantee that other issues won't pop up. Find something else with a chipset from a reputable vendor.

nothing happens when I plug it in the computer

You need to go to your File Explorer and look for a new folder for the adapter - inside the folder you will find a setup file to execute - this should load the drivers and get it enabled to begin using.

should it be plugged into my laptop all of the time? How long will it last?

This adapter is what enables your laptop to access a wireless internet connection. Therefore, you must have it plugged in any time you want to access a wireless internet connection. However, if you are not using a wireless internet connection, you can unplug it. I'm not sure how long it's meant to last though. I would guess 4 - 5 years-- similar to the lifespan of many electronics nowadays-- with variability depending in part by how you use it, how much it gets knocked around, etc.

Will this work with Sony blueray player?

I doubt it. There was software drivers that needed to be installed to work on our laptop to be able to see it.
