Bought for my husband to use while he makes bowls. He really enjoys using it!

When this came it was covered in oil which is good. The paint job was not great but does not interfere with function. The tips were too sharpe and I had to file them down to a rounded shape. I love TayTools and expected to provide another 5 star review but alas, I could not.Issues with the calipers:1) Calipers did not meet on both sides equally. There was about a 1/16" inch gap at the end of one of the calipers - may not sound like much but when I'm trying to get to 1/8 thickness it is significant. Again, was able to file it down and get them to meet equally.2) The tips as designed are too sharp and leave marks on the bowl when trying to measure. Rounded over the tips for better performance.That being said, great price if you're willing to put some effort into cleaning them up.Not going to return them because I've got them working now well enough for the price I paid.You may want to consider buying double calipers with rounded tips , or just be willing to file the tips round yourself given how inexpensive these are.

Nothing fancy but has a large measuring capacity, works as it should, and is worth the reasonable price. Metal is blued like a gun so it came with a coating of oil. It could rust if moisture is allowed to collect on it so don't. Machining is good with no sharp edges or points. Caliper points close exactly the same on both parts giving an accurate reading. Brass pivot point screw has a wing nut so you can adjust tension. This is good in that you can put the tension where you want it but bad in that it loosens as it is opened and closed repeatedly. I will try a brass lock washer. Should fix it. None of this is a deal breaker for me as it is so simple to tighten if needed and the price is right. I would recommend to a friend.

Not the finish of a high end British turning tool, but it does the job accurately and for MUCH LESS money.The item is painted black to protect the metal from corrosion.The wing nut gives good tension and control.This accessory is a necessity for bowl turners if they don't want to turn their bowl into a funnel!

Tool is designed for wood turners, mostly. Enables the user to accurately gauge the thickness of thepiece he/she is turning; ie; wall and bottom thickness.

Quality better than expected. Works fine.

I have had to round off the ends as used as they are would put huge scratches into the wood.
