Big and heavy, but educational and entertaining
Rating system:1 star = did not like2 star = it was okay3 star = liked it4 star = really liked it5 star = it was amazingFirst, and most obvious thing, I got this in hardcover, and it's huge. I'm talking almost full ruler tall, 9 inches wide, and over 300 pages. It's pretty unwieldy to hold, depending how you like to hold your books. I like to hold mine higher, so it's better for my neck, and I almost smacked myself in the face a few times while turning the pages. I'm sure this book could have been a 600 or so page regular sized hardcover just fine, but my guess is they didn't want to scale down the pictures. They aren't frequent, but there are full page pictures scattered throughout.Something I didn't understand the need for was, there were random funny quotes from the text positioned and blown up. Like, Percy would say something funny, and then a couple lines down, the same way you would insert a small image, that sentence would be placed there as if to repeat the joke. Like, "haha did you catch that funny part? Well, here it is again just in case."I can see it being effective for someone skimming the book in store to try to grab their attention, but to someone reading the book at home, it seemed unnecessary.Anyway, Percy Jackson is the narrator for the legends of the origins of the world, and the 12 primary Greek Gods. I think this is likely far more interesting than a school text book version, but maybe not as detailed. Percy puts his own spin on the tales, and makes them as family friendly as possible. He also inserts his own two cents every so often. I didn't get to learn any Greek mythology in school, but I've always been interested, so I thought this book was a neat way to learn more than just what the series has been tossing out. I look forward to reading the book about Greek heroes in the near future.

Funny & surprisingly educational
4½. This was a very informative book on the Greek Gods, made more interesting & entertaining by being written in the voice of Percy Jackson. It actually contained a lot of information. I don't know what I was expecting when I started reading it, but I guess I didn't expect it to be as educational as it was. Of course, some of it was slightly censored due to the target audience being tweens & young teens, & the Greek gods were a horny, raunchy lot. But overall it was a lot of fun. A definite must read for any fans of the Camp Half-Blood books who wants to know more about the myths behind the story. Rick Riordan is the master of middle-grade, & this book is no different. It's substantial enough & informative enough for adults & older teens, without sounding dumbed down (although it is laugh out loud sassy at certain points!) but is clearly written & accessable to younger audiences (who will appreciate Percy's references to school, bullies, crushes, teachers, etc...) Basically it's a Greek gods textbook narrated by a sharp, snappy teen. I loved it.

Anyone else annoyed about inconsistencies?
don't get me wrong, I love this book and the entire series. But there are several inconsistencies such as Athena changing Koronis when in trials of Apollo, it is Apollo, and such?

Hilarious and not too far off from the original myths from what I can tell
It's obviously not 100% accurate, but that's part of the charm; it's told frome the perspective of teenage Percy Jackson in a modern context, so of course there's some quirky differences. I loved it!

big and heavy for a child but still recommended! great summer reading!
The media could not be loaded. My daughter and my oldest son loves Harry Potter series, and they have read the entire book series twice! However, my second son was not a big fan of Harry Potter but he was attracted to Greek mythology so he loved the Percy Jackson series. So we bought the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series and he ended up reading the series twice! After he read the series twice, it was no brainer to buy this Percy Jackson's Greek Gods book, which he also loved reading. I highly recommend this for any children who enjoyed reading Harry Potter books or even if they were not fan of Harry Potter like my 2nd son. Please note that this hardcover book is very big and heavy. It may be too big and heavy for a younger child. If the paperback version also has illustrations like this one, I would actually recommend the paperback version, which would save few dollars as well. But still, this is 5 out of 5 stars and I highly recommend this book to any children!Hope my video and photos were useful... and if they were, please click on the helpful button below. Thank you!

Great book but delivery sucked
Love rick riordan and his books. This is a decent size book with lots of great tales and descriptions of how the Greeks believed the world began. If you've read any of rick Riordan's books you'll love this. However the delivery company Amazon used left this on the ground against the vehicle outside my house. Not on the porch or porch table. Not on the steps even but laying against the tire of the car in front.

Recommended for inquiring young minds
While I didn't buy it for myself, I read it to see if it would appeal to 12 year old boys and girls. And I would say yes! Especially if their interests lie in fantastical or mythological stories, with a fun twist.

EXCELENTE
