Cst Premium Tires CSTP BFT+ 29x3.0 BK/BK Wire SC

This is a good tire for dry firm conditions. Low profile knobs compromise grip in loose and muddy conditions. Rounded profile makes leaning over in corners predicable and yields low rolling resistance. Weight is on the heavy side. But that does not matter much on an eBike. Currently have them on a Specialized Levo. Easy to set up tubeless. Holds air better than all other tubeless tires I have used. Durable. No flats riding very rocky trails and trails with lots of puncture vine (goat heads). Good value. Have seen the price of these vary as low as $30 and as high as $60. Stated as 3.0 wide, but that is probably exaggerated.

I bought this 29er plus tire a few months ago and wanted to put some miles on it before reviewing. After putting through it paces I can attest to just what a bargain the CST BFT+ 29er is. With little info on the web about CST (Cheng Shin tire, the parent company of Maxxis) it was tough for me to find tire specs on the BFT. Here's what you're getting: First off, this is a 29 x 2.8" (622 x 70mm) tire, not a true 3 incher. On a WTB i29 rim it measures around 66-70mm depending on air pressure. You can probably get it closer to 3" on a 50+ mm rim, but be aware that the listed size is optimistic. This was perfect for me, as I'm putting it on the front of a Karate Monkey and just wanted something larger than the standard 2.4's on the market. Also note that despite the 2.8 width, you're never gonna get it onto the back of your bike due to a 30" overall diameter, unless you have an actual 29er plus frame. The tire has a fast rolling, XC style tread without the massive side knobs of a Maxxis Ardent or other trail tire. It still offers insane grip and cornering at appropriately low pressures (I'm running it under 20 psi.) It has a thick, heavy sidewall and hard rubber compound and held up admirably to the abuse I deal out riding rocky trails at low psi. Weight wise, it's wire bead and doesn't have paper thin sidewalls, so yeah, it's not the lightest tire on the market, but that's hardly the point of 29er plus, anyway. Overall, I can't recommend the BFT 29er plus highly enough. With $60-$100 plus tires being the norm, a quality 29 x 2.8 for around $30 is a great find. The rollover and ride quality of these big tires has to be felt to be appreciated. Get em while they last!

I bought these to make my hardtail more comfortable. I've ridden several kind of tires from maxxis to specialized so have some experience with diff brands. Installation was a bit tough but really enjoy the ride quality. The bike rolls over objects much easier now and the Increased grip in corners is noticable. I put these on my 2019 specialized fuse Designed for 27.5 wheels. I got new 29 wheels and I knew the clearance would be tight for these tires but they worked fine with a decent amount of clearance all around. SURPRISINGLY, I'm using These on 29 mm inside diameter rims ( not the 35 - 45mm you would expect) and if you read online these tires should not work well because of the side wall lean. Overall I was expecting these to be wider but really they were only a few mms wider than the 2.6 tires I had on before. I guess because I'm using thinner rims. I was afraid of buying these but it turned out even at lower pressure of 15psi side wall squish was minimal. So now I have these juicy big tires I can run at lower pressure and better control and it's made riding my hardtail as much fun as my full suspension. Note, I weigh 150 pounds so these results will be different that for a heavier rider.

Original review from October 19, 2023 I'll likely be buying more of these for my Trek Stache 29x3.0. Much cheaper than other brands with comparable traction and quality. Updated May 29, 2025 I'm still extremely happy with these tires and continue to buy them as they wear out. I run this tire as a rear tire only with something chunkier in the front.

Glancing at this tire versus a different brand also on my plus bike, really couldn't tell the difference. Then took out a ruler and neither width nor height (from rim edge) seemed significant. So using just 1 of these won't mess with you. I just ordered a 2nd, tho, as a spare for when I wear out my older tire. I like the 2 lines of tread on the normal footprint of the tire, I don't do aggressive cornering but the feel has been OK. I tend to use tires at near-full inflation (in this case, 30 PSI) and occasionally overload while grocery shopping (panniers and rack fit 11 two liter sodas, for example). Tire has held up without noticeable problems. I also childishly like the large white print on this tire. Great, low price!

was able to finally seat the bead/tire after spending way too much time and using a tube overnight, but seems to be ok for now. not worth the risk, next time will just spend the extra $20 and get a maxxis, wtb, or some other high end brand tire.

A bicycle tire should not cost more than a car tire, if not for the lack of rubber mass, the for how few miles they last (2-4Kmi, vs 10x for an automobile tire) I wore my first set of BFT's bald and my second rear had a freak trail puncture. To date, I've ordered 5 CST BFT tires. CST has saved me $200, which I just spent on a more durable good - a carbon rim. When my tires were 2.3" I was very picky about tire selection, but with plus sized tubeless tires, the tires inherently have more traction and conformability, so tire design seems less critical.

I added Tannus Armour insert to the 3” wide 29” tire for my mountain bike hard tail e-bike mid-mount conversion, increasing tire width from 2.25 inches. Barely have enough clearance between the tire and seat post tube, but no rub or contact. Probably increased total tire diameter by about a half inch. I run about 28 PSI. Mushy ride with the relatively too narrow rim at 10 PSI. Excellent traction and stability from going over tree roots and Pangea rock trails in south central PA. Use steel tire irons and repair rim scratches for least difficult installation. Or break half of your plastic tire irons
