Review: Celebrity interviews are not a large part of the Documentary - I watched this because I wanted to see Jane Fonda. This is documentary about women that lost their mothers at a very young age. It is sad, it is real, it explores the feelings that young women go through that have lost their mothers at a young age. Jane Fonda lost her mother when she was 12, and it was a very dysfunctional situation, and so tragic. The non celebrity women interviewed, all struggled in their own ways but were very much survivors. One of the four women interviewed and followed, Leticia was very off-putting to me. She found out that she had the BRCA gene, the same gene that her mother had that caused her mother's cancer. Her mother died as a result of the cancer. And then Lettica was so sure that she didn't have it, that when she found out, she did have it, she was in shock. I don't understand how somebody could be not prepared for something like that especially if they knew their parent carried this very gene, and that it is a genetic predisposition. I found her lack of any humility, so unattractive. She was haughty, and the world seemed to revolve around her, not her husband or newborn daughter, her! She finally wound up moving back to Brazil, with an American husband who had to find a job Sao Paulo. I just found her extremely unappealing. On the other hand there were two sisters that were featured that were extremely well adjusted and were headed in the right direction and understood the loss of their mother and how it affected their lives, even at a young age. Their grandmother was a big part of their lives.
