very effective

I've never had to use any sort of barking deterrent for either of my dogs, but when we moved into a new apartment, I started having problems. The first day I went to work, I came home and could hear them both barking from the parking lot. I had a note on my door from my downstairs neighbor stating that they barked the ENTIRE time I was gone. I started leaving the TV on, giving them frozen Kongs with stuff inside before I left, and I even bought a camera with sound detection that would notify me on an app on my phone and would let me talk to them. I bought two of these collars as a backup, hoping I wouldn't need to use them.It seemed to work for a while, but one day I was at work and they wouldn't stop barking. I was giving them commands through the camera and they were both ignoring me, barking incessantly. I drove home and put the collars on them. (I tested them first and confirmed that it's a very mild vibrating sensation.) I monitored them through the camera. They both barked a few minutes after I left and I heard the warning beeps. That was enough to get the shepherd to stop completely. But my younger mixed breed rescue is way more rambunctious and likes to push her boundaries. She barked again. Got a second, longer warning beep. Then she barked again and the collar vibrated. It scared her.I can tell you that this was over a week ago and now when I'm not home, I still have the camera on and haven't had a single "sound detected" notification on the camera. They both know better than to bark when they have the collars on. I think each dog has barked once with the collar on since then and the warning beep is enough to make them stop. These collars are gently but INSANELY effective.

I HATE this collar!!!

This "training" collar emits an audible squeal at the first "bark", then a longer squeal at the second "bark", and then an even longer squeal and then finally a brief vibration. If she continues to bark it will squeal again and vibrate again. Do you know how many real barks can occur while all this time is spent "training"? Now, I not only have a barking dog, I have a squealing audible I HATE and the dog will not respond positively to. It has trained her alright--She now has several free barks before anything will happen, or she is panicking knowing something will happen... eventually...My old collar was either verbal or vibration. She never responded to the squeal so I left it on vibrate. Just a little buzz or a longer one and she shut up. The batteries only lasted three days barking or not, but it was effective. I did not leave it on her all the time only when she got too loud for too long. Unfortunately I accidentally drowned it with a small amount of water a few days after I ordered 100 LR44 batteries. That style of collar is no longer available. It was small and slender with no prongs gouging into her neck. She is a 9.5 pound Yorkie. This collar is not only annoying to both of us it is a huge, clunky, pokey monstrosity under her neck. The only positive is the batteries last a lot longer than 3 days and with a little aluminium foil stuffed at the end to fill the gap I can use some of the old batteries.I only use the collar in desperation, that is when I would use the old one, but as my desperation with the dog increases so does both mine and the dogs aggravation with the collar!! I am actively shopping for a non-automatic, non-training, anti-bark collar specifically designed for a truly small dog. Just because the collar will shrink small enough to go around the neck does not make it comfortable! The designers of these collars (and marketing people) should try hanging something, perspective-wise, on their necks for a minimum 12 hours a day and try sleeping with a big clunky box in their way.

It worked at first...

At first, this worked like a charm. We put the collar on Lizzie and when as soon as she felt the vibration, she stopped barking. We didn't put the collar on unless we knew she would be in a situation where she would be tempted to bark (like company coming over), since the prongs press into her throat. It isn't meant to be left on for long periods. Well, eventually she figured out the vibration and beeps don't hurt and she got used to them. She started ignoring them, and ended up realizing that when we put the collar on, something would happen that was bark-worthy. So she began getting excited and ready to bark as soon as we put the collar on - not the desired result. Also, I should note, the battery life on this collar is terrible! Sometimes we only get one use out of a brand new battery. However, the collar itself does what it is supposed to do. Our dog just outsmarted it.

Simple to use

This worked great for about 2 weeks. But. I have a very stubborn dog. A husky who is old and becoming demented. She barked less but figured out she could whine. This does not give a buzz untill after MANY warnings. At first my dog would try to stop her useless nuisance barking. Then she couldn't care less. Then the collar just stopped. I think the battery is dead but my dog was just whining instead of barking anyway. I think this would work well for a younger more typical dog. We have had trainers too and another citronella bark collar that also stopped working. For the price I think this would be great for an easier dog to train. I did have a hard time finding where the battery goes. Under the front of the strap.

Works well, though I wish it had a rechargeable feature.

The collar works great, very responsive to my dogs barking and super simple design, it automatically turns on and has a nice test in which you blow into a hole on the backside of the device to see whether or not it is being responsive. Pros are that it works- which is most important, it seems to very be effective even though it is a humane option which does not use an electric shock, it comes in a variety of colors with changeable face plates, and it has gradually increasing severity to repeated barks, cons it doesn’t have an on and off switch and it is not rechargeable ( for some reason there are no rechargeable collars that are shock free). Overall I would recommend this collar and the price is fair.
