Love this version/style of cuisinart with hot water dispenser we use for tea, oatmeal, instant soups. So much quicker then boiling a kettle and convenient

I am a slight fan, well fan is a strong word, I slightly prefer CUISINART small kitchen appliances when faced with brand choices for some things like toasters and cheap coffee makers. This one gives you hot water and coffee, programmable, blah blah- this is a basic coffee maker you don't need a play by play it works great and provided you do not smash the glass carafe (I am not commenting on the build quality it's just as durable as any other glass carafe that is to say don't drop it) this coffee maker probably never needs to be replaced ... EXCEPT their crappy filter system. You CANNOT have a filter sit in water anywhere for the most part, what happens is filmy, slimy, whatevers grow on the filter and filter holder IF YOU DO NOT DILIGENTLY DRY OUT THE FILLER AREA EVERY SINGLE TIME and then leave it dry for a bit. By this I mean you better open the filler area top when you're done and leave it open or better yet remove both filter holders and filters entirely and take them out to dry when you have made your coffee. I am telling you this because I have owned 3 versions of CUISNART coffee makers from moving around (giving them away etc - haven't had to replace a single one, I PERSONALLY had to buy more for me cause I'm so nice haha) and they all use the same filter baskets and filters. Now don't get down on me, the filters are cheap as f@&$ when you order from Amazon or even at a big box store if you get the right ones. Thats not at issue- what is at issue is if you do not check them and FEEL THE INSIDE of the filter basket for film/rinse them off frequently/change the filters on time/leave the top open or remove the holder and filters to dry properly you will 100% be drinking heated water that has been lovingly dripped over DA BEAN, and that heated water was just run through and over slime coated plastic, then run through a slime coated carbon filter. Now the slime whatever it is I can't remember from science class, not mildew- possibly a "slime mold"? Is probably not harmful but my gosh the thought of it. I hope that doesn't scare you away- the above is basically your best care instructions. IF YOU DRY the filter and basked and all your insides of your coffee maker like you probably should anyway, then you have no issue what so ever. I am still on my first filter since my purchase, it is probably overdue to change (me not following my own advice heh) BUT gosh darn I have no slime in my coffee maker! I learned the hard way with my first one. Used to think well gee it's a filter it should probably stay in the coffee maker when not in use... ANHHHHH wrong. At least not when you have 2 coffee drinkers who brew throughout various times of the day every day, the pot never gets to dry out- and I live in Florida. Although I have experienced the exact same slime in Pennsylvania, so please take care or you'll be feeling that slime for yourself and want to be replacing your coffee maker all over again way too soon. Also caveat; you could just totally ignore the filter holder and filters and not use them. We have hard (mineralized/chlorinated/fluoridated) water here- I love filters anywhere I can get em. The hot water maker is quiet, and pretty quick, it beats our clear glass one (the one you know almost everyone has- and they ALWAYS get gross because you can't actually fully wash or dishwash them? ) so that's a plus in my book. Also I know saying it's quiet probably won't matter to most people but if you use hot water for cooking or tea or (gulp even ... (shhhh... *whispering* instant coffee))- and you have the clear glass water boiler- you know they are sometimes atomic bomb loud in the morning especially if you are trying not to wake dogs up or your spouse or whoever may be near by sleeping lightly in your home.

A good product

I so wanted the hot water spout feature so I could make my tea at the same time the coffee was brewing. It worked well for a month then I noticed that there was a puddle of water that had collected under the machine. The water for both sides was put in at night so I could just turn it on in the morning. I've been trying all morning to call Cuisinart Canada- USELESS! Why have a business in Ontario and a 1-800 # if customer calls aren't attended to? This information is on a yellow printout that came with the machine for product return. Other people, I see, have complained about this leakage so I'm not the only one. Advice: don't buy...poor/non existent Cuisinart support...cheap made in China crap
