The belt buckles are polished with liberal tears and dyed black with burnt gunpowder from George Washington's musket. Probably China though. **Q: Do you have to remove the buckle to get it through the belt loops?** A: No, not necessarily. Some of my jeans' belt loops will actually fit the female end through them, but some others don't. Should fit fine through tactical pants, especially 5.11 ones with wider belt loops. Even if it doesn't fit, you can keep the male end connected to the female end and run the actual belt through your loops and THEN run it through the buckle.
