Pocket Guide to Low Sodium Foods [Mostyn, Bobbie] on desertcart.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Pocket Guide to Low Sodium Foods Review: The low sodium book I use the most - I like this book especially because it lists several low sodium food items that can be ordered in fast food and casual dining restaurants. Places like Panera's, Bob Evans, Caifornia Pizza, Chick-Fil-A, Jimmy John's, KFC, McDonalds, Noodles and Co., etc. It also lists the sodium content in grocery products, ethnic foods and snack foods. It's a very practical book and is about 3"x5" so can be easily carried in the glove compartment of your car for handy reference. Review: Convenient and Easy - I bought this for my sister who was just diagnosed with congestive heart failure. Lowering your sodium (salt) intake is critical. I thought it would really help her, but I learned a lot from it. Can help anyone. Has sections on what to choose at a restaurant and how to plan a weekly and daily menu. Great ideas!

Big Agra is killing us all with sodium.
My first reaction to this book was a Jaw Drop. It's amazing (and horrific) how much unnecessary sodium lurks everywhere in a supermarket. Statistically, 75% of sodium abuse does not occur at the table. It's in those condiments, processed foods, even packaged chicken is often treated with saline to keep it......um.. "Fresh" as it travels to your supermarket from God-Knows-Where. Please beware: We are being loaded down with heart-killing sodium by Big Agra, folks. When you read your labels, please pay attention to sodium content. Something as small as a can of tomato soup can contain more sodium than any human body should endure in one day. And try not to go by "serving size". If you fall for that trick, you have to suspend disbelief when they tell you that one can of soup contains 3 servings. Or that "lower salt" means "low salt". Americans are being slowly brined without even trying, to the point where they don't even taste it any longer. But make no mistake, it's doing its job on you silently. Please don't wait till that surprise bypass surgery, like I did (and I wasn't an ounce overweight or out of shape) High blood pressure wreaks havoc with your heart AND your kidneys. Next time you pick up that box or can, please read the label and know that having your chest cracked open and put back together with stainless steel wires is not fun, trust me. Be well--and bring this book with you to the store. Eventually, after the shock and horror wear off, you will know how to decipher what that can or box is doing to you daily. Fight back against Big Agra. Leave their sodium right there on the shelf. As more and more people do this, they will get the picture that using sodium as a preservative to prolong shelf life practically indefinitely at the expense of people's lives is NOT acceptable.

good book but could be better organized with more information
I liked the listings of low salt foods including many brands although I didn't recognize many of the brand names. The book also contains nutritional info including fat but doesn't list protein which is important for people like myself with kidney problems. I would give the book a higher rating but I think it could be formatted better for easier reading. The book does cover 1,000s of items and for less than $10 is a good value.

If you need to track your sodium this book is great!
This book is full of valuable information. My husband is new to a low sodium diet and honestly it has been very difficult to try to figure it all out. I feel like a ton of confusion and frustration has been lifted from my shoulders having this handy guide at my fingertips! Very thankful I ran across it.

If you are on a very low sodium diet, ...
If you are on a very low sodium diet, this book is a jewel. I use it in my kitchen for planning and cooking meals and for making grocery lists. I am now buying a second copy to carry in my car. Traveling and maintaining a very low sodium diet is extremely difficult, This book is an enormous help in finding something to eat almost anywhere.

I should have listened to the other reviews--not really suitable for the Canadian market In the USA it would have a much higher rating--well organized and to the point.
